I have an AmigaOne XE G4 that had an old version of AmigaOS 4.1 on it. This is a standard AmigaOne XE. No hardware fixes, still the same hardware configuration as when I bought it all those years ago. I recently downloaded the 4.1 ISO (update 1) from Hyperion plus the various update LHA files to sort out reinstalling from scratch.

I finally had a chance today to do the reinstallation. I booted from the CD, set up the locale/mouse/keyboard, reformatted DH0, ensured the latest SLB was installed, picked the appropriate screen res for my monitor (HP w2228h, 1680x1050 60Hz) and everything seemed to install fine.

When I reboot, I get the AmigaOS 4.1 splash screen for a few seconds... then it goes to a black screen. The monitor says it's at 1680x1050 @60Hz... but it's trying to "autoadjust". I tested with a second monitor and that reports no output. I've tried installing again with the default settings (1024x768) and it still boots to a blank screen after the 4.1 splash shows (monitor reports it's 1024x768 but again "autoadjusting"). I can't be certain, but I think it has booted to Workbench but there's either no video output or it's not a supported resolution.

Anyone got any thoughts as to what's going on?

I've done some further playing around this afternoon, without success. I tried the Live CD option and that boots fine, displays a 1024x768 screen and I can change it do different screen resolutions without a problem. I then ran the installation from the Live CD Workbench, rather than from the CD menu, and it doesn't make a difference (I wasn't expecting it to, but worth a shot). I might end up going back to the original 2008 4.1 CD and reinstalling from that.

I ould suggest have a look what is stored under the Sys:devs/monitors in your installation. Maybe something is missing there. Worh a try to remove it completely, or try to put there what is used in the live cd.

Cheers. Will give that a try, makes sense if it is something as silly as that.

If it’s like the Classic Amiga installation. I tend to get the standard AGA display when I selected the RTG card of choice. Then using the RTG screen would be a blank black screen, but would hear the startup chime.

Pretty sure, when RTG kicks in it goes grey.

It’s either grey or white in the classic with Cyberstorm PPC if the RTG is setup correctly. But have had issues where for some reason the Monitor file doesn’t get copied into devs monitors. Seems to happen to me with the Cybervision. But any other Zorro or PCI card then it works.

Thing is, there's no AGA there's only the Radeon 7000 graphics card - but the idea that it's defaulting to some unsupported screen mode is certainly possible (not sure what/why though). Clearly the drivers work fine when booting from the Live CD so it's something to do with the installation.

I've not had a chance to try walkero's suggestion yet (I'm away at the moment) but that feels like it's the right idea.
