All, and those who are in the RPUK Fan Club.

Look, it’s up to individuals to make their own minds up. But please read up here about people’s experiences with these companies. You may say I have a vendetta against this company. My answer is “No”. I have always knew that RPUK were always up to no good. Proof below…

Hopefully you don’t get stuck with what these customers are currently going through.

Also recently on a Chris Edwards Video about the CD32 FMV module. Another YouTuber (Hold and Modify) sent his CD32 in to Dr Chris for repair. OMG!

(SPOILER ALERT! Recapped 5 years ago by RetropassionUK with cheap Chinese caps, which have now leaked and causing damage)

Local hit squad, lol, classic.

I will leave this thread. However you have been warned time and time again.
Its nice to actual happy customers reply and argue the case. Its a shame, only one or two happy customers will post stuff.

In regards to caps. I'm sorry, 1000% disagree. I want to see proof of this. I have been doing electronics for well over 30 years an not once seen caps leak again after being replaced. The compound screw ups from when they were first released, have long been sorted. What tests were done? did he investigate, exactly where caps came from?

Posting link to a video is not proof. You need the science to back it up, like the long lengthy investigation as to why the original caps from back in the day leaked in the first place. Just watched the video, 1 million % impossible. The words say it all, "They are all leaking", IMPOSSIBLE, would never ever happen. Looks more like flux to me. Which would track, if your changing them all. Personally, I do not use flux, no point if the pads are cleaned off.

For ones, I will agree with F0LLETT. It looked like flux and maybe too much soldering, but it didn't seem like caps leaking. And at the end, after the recapping, the main issue with the audio was proven to be a software one, and had nothing to do with recapping.

Fair comments. Thanks to the Admin for keeping this one on.

Each to their own. But Cheap Chinese capacitors? You would expect better.

But the comments over on Amibay are from other customers. Still it’s there.

If you you read the comment by “Supaduper” on the YT comments page. It’s actually to do with a fix with the IDE cable.
So technically not software. 👍🏻😉

The through-holes were a cheap Chinese brand, but the SMD's certainly looked like Panasonic caps. I've been using them for years and they looked like the Panasonic brand.
As for that muck on the motherboard, that was flux, not leaking capacitors. As others have said, they're not likely to leak and certainly DO NOT all leak at once like that. The original Retro Passion job was very sloppy with flux sloshed everywhere and not being cleaned up. I like Dr. Chris and his videos, but I think he got it wrong on that occasion.

Anyway, I think you should just move on from your campaign against Retro Passion.

@sean_sk

1st off. Thanks for the reply. So you agree that RPUK didn’t do a good enough job. That’s interesting to read.

2nd. I have no campaign against Retro Passion. Only the truth. You did read the other threads over on Amibay? Retropassion has the time to put up a very big comment reply over on YouTube about the situation. But some reason cannot reply to his customers he seems to have wronged?
If we the community, don’t call this out, then many others will possibly get stung. Besides there are other Amiga resellers out there getting it right.

What are your thoughts on that?

Understand what your saying. I would never in a million years ever deal with Retro Passion either. But I also know that if I invested time and energy trying to expose them, I'd end up with stomach ulcers. I'd rather just completely forget they exist, move on and do things I enjoy that bring me peace of mind. Just my 2 cents.  :)

Appreciate what you are saying. Obviously you have the right to expression and an opinion. That is all I’m doing. Besides if no one exposes the truth about this. Then this business will not learn. 😉
I hate to think that other potential victims (customers) may fall for this. I have plenty of other things to be getting on with. But my conscience says it’s not right for businesses to treat other devout Amiga and retro members like this.
Don’t forget the Amiga community needs to bring in new and younger blood.

I think this is the crucial point, he obviously did not know about the reversed silk screen. So it would not have mattered even if they were cheap caps or gold plated ones (yes gold caps exist, had the opportunity to work on £20K Amplifier once), if they were in wrong way around, they will vent.

Yes, but as already pointed out, your always full on.

Loads of people slag my work off. Which makes me laugh. Are they there, have they seen me work, nope, they just go off the lies spouted around forums.

Amibay, love to fuel it all. Remember one person on there going nuts, because I apparently wired a cable wrong. So after constantly slagging me off. I thought enough is enough. He was going on what customer told them. I shut him down straight away. If he had done some research he would have found their were 4 different models of monitor, all using different connectors. The one that was bought and advertised for the exact model, was the reverse to the customer model. Clearly no research done at all and apparently that's my fault its wired wrong. Go figure.

Interesting to note. So someone spent money with a so called Professional repairer (RetropassionUK) and got stung. So be it.

But with RPUK it was not just one instance of failure by this so called business.
Look I am but 1 of many who have had issues with RPUK and now it is documented.
If others wish to flip the coin or gamble with their monies, then so be it. But it is only fair to point out these issues.
Oh, as you are aware I do have negative experiences so have others with the so called “Great One”. Yes he pays off YouTubers and Forum staff on a particular other Amiga community to stay popular and make them his friends.

 But when you deal with RPUK directly…..You know the rest. Especially when it goes wrong. You get ghosting, spin answers, worst of all it’s the customers fault.
What makes it laughable is that Steve Clifford thinks he is A1200.net as well. Absolute power, corrupts absolutely.
What next? Hopefully no tie ins with Perifractic and the new Commodore branding.

@Boing-ball

There's no need to make it personal. He's a good guy and whether you choose to use his services should be based on his service and not what you deem to be his character!

Just like Chris from AmigaKit helped me with my badly soldered 4-player adapter (advice on my wrong schematic) and Trevor had a nice chat with me about his C= A4000T. Does it mean I'd give any one of them a personal loan or invite them to my birthday party....unlikely! Leave that stuff to RJ Mical!  ;)

@BozzerBigD

Not personal. Just my opinion.
Besides, you have only seen one side of this guy. The DMs he will send you (When he feels like responding). Wow! Just wow! Let’s just say if you have seen the film “Split” with James McEvoy. His nasty side (True side) is nasty!

If that’s your opinion. So be it. But tell that to others who he has wronged.

I know you are also a member over on Amibay. So you should have seen the posts over there from other customers of RPUK? If not, have a read.

Remember that Steve Clifford did the dirty to the guy who was making the Repro Retro Boxes 🙄
