Is the ZZ9000 Graphics Card for Amiga Worth it?
« on: December 24, 2025, 12:18:26 AM »
Just wondering if anyone here has one of these graphics cards installed in their Amiga?
https://shop.mntre.com/products/zz9000-for-amiga-preorder

I have been eyeing one for a couple of years. What puts me off is the extra items it has, such as USB, which I understand STILL do not work for it. Is this project abandonware? In the sense that they still make it and sell, it but that they have not fulfilled the hardwares potential.

Views welcome!

Had one. Only to discover it was a PITA! But this was one of the earlier models which I discovered needed something doing on the power rail or it could fail….

I believe the Network side isn’t as good as a X-Surf100 by Indivision. I couldn’t get mine to work.
Yes the USB is only a Bootable device? Couldn’t get the RTG to work, but the native Amiga side looks nice.

On a plus side. You can still buy these and download and get firmware updates.

If you are to buy one. Make sure it is a later model of the card with the power fix.

Here is some additional info:

The free ARMv9 core is definitly attractive, however MNT itself seems not to develop anything for it. There was a notice past year that someone planned to use it for wolfSSL, but no idea how far that project made progress.

I like ZZ9000 in my A4000D. Upgraded firmware using windows, no problem there. Sold Indivision AGA and BigRam board, because ZZ flicker fixer is perfect and ram feature works. Using Rapid Road USB module with X-Surf so these features are covered nicely. I would recommend this board to one looking for RTG/flickerfixer modern solution in a bigbox Amiga.

I bought one circa a year ago with the ZZ9000AX sound expansion for my A4000D machine I agree with people about the RTG card aspect. It's a hell of a card in that aspect!
My setup of the card in my A4000D went smoothly, I have kickrom 3.2.2 and running OS 3.2.2.1, using Picasso 96 version 3.6.2.
The only trouble I had was the the ZZ9000AX sound card was defective, it produced a humming sound all of the time. MNT sent my a replacement which solved that problem.

I agree what people say about the built in network interface .. it's slooooow. Even way slower that an Ariadne I for example.

I haven't tested the USB interface on it yet since I don't use USB storage devices with any of my miggy's.
