Reviving my Amiga 4000
« on: December 08, 2025, 12:07:29 PM »
Hi everyone. I was a real Amiga fanatic back in the day. Started off with a A500+, then an A1200, which had a GVP 030 accelerator, and my last Amiga, an A4000/030, which I still own. It’s been sat in my loft for over 25 years and recently I got it down to have a look, due to nostalgia. I had packed it away carefully but unfortunately, didn’t know about the potential for leaking batteries and capacitors when I did. The actual case, mouse, and keyboard are in very good condition but, on opening it up there was obvious corrosion around the battery and around the capacitors in the audio area. I have started to restore it and after some trace repairs, capacitors replacement and a couple of IC replacements, it now boots AND recognises fast RAM. I was thinking of selling it but have decided to keep it instead. I’m in the process of doing a couple of upgrades/modernisations (gotek, CF drive, OSSC). The audio is a little flaky so will replace the audio ports and see whether that improves things. If not, I’ll look at possible IC replacements. If you’re interested I’ll post some pictures of the progress.
