My A1200NG has a new home!
« on: December 02, 2025, 06:13:54 AM »
Hey all, I figured it was time to get a better case for my NG.  8)

Since I got my A1200NG, it's been housed in the original cardboard box.  Don't get me wrong, it looked great, just a little dodgey.   ;D

This is the plexi case from PlexiLaser in Germany.  I really like the modular slots on the back.  The one sideways option fits the best for the HDMI cable, but only one screw hole lines up.  I also find it odd that the "Mouse 1" slot doesn't let you use the hex screws.

But everything else is great!  It was easy to put together, on the right side there is already a place for the additional USB ports from the NG, it comes wirh the hardware needed to secure the second joystick port, has a pretty cool way of mounting a real floppy, and they were great to work wirh.  :)

If you have any questions, fire away!

Sorry for the super-sized picture.  These should be more manageable.

Things to note:

Pic 1.  There is a place for the tri-light from your A1200 to the right.  I didn't have one to install so I'm getting a custom set from Amiga Kit.

Pic 2.  The power cable from the Floppy kit option for the A1200NG is the perfect length.

Pic 3. I ordered the insulation layer not knowing how I was going to house the A1200NG and it fits well and gives me the peace of mind since the floppy is so close to the bottom of the MoBo.  For you original Amiga 1200 owners, you'll notice that it has the "hump" to fit those bigger PCMCIA cards you've always wanted to use.  ;)

Pic 4. Since this case is already geared for it, I need to get a double header USB socket to take full advantage of the second USB bank from the MoBo.

Continued...

Pic 5.  Here you can see that the sideways option block is -almost- perfect for the HDMI out (Hole do not line up well enough for two screws).  You can also see the odd choice for the #1 9-pin socket making it impossible to put in the screw-in posts.  It is also a little tricky getting the A1200NG MoBo into the back panel since the shrouds really need those posts to hold them on.

Pic 6. The rear on-board USB ports fit perfectly into the "Disk Drive" section.  I'm really happy this case has those optional ports along the bottom and that it came with blanks.

Pic 7.  I probably should have used the metal back plate that came with the A1200NG as there are some BIG openings here.  I have ideas to make the power supply internal since there is so much space (and I have the Insulation Layer) and use the bottom brackets for an "plug-in" power cable.  I also am contemplating an external Wi-Fi antenna for better signal, which is why the circular opening plate is installed under the audio ports.

Congratulations on the new case for the A1200NG! The Plexilaser case looks very nice! :)
