Amiga1200 and BLIZZARD 123050mhz broker!? Help
« on: November 10, 2025, 07:05:05 AM »
I hope you can give me some advice...
I have an A1200 with a BLIZZARD 123050MHZ and a PC power supply modified for Commodore.
I was doing some tests by restarting the A1200 several times and at a certain point, while it was restarting I was busy with something else, I smelled a very faint burning smell without smoke and a black screen....
 I quickly turned it off.
When restarted, the A1200 shows a yellow screen and the power LED flashes 9 times, then a black screen, and restarts.
The BLIZZARD remains cold, even the coprocessor remains cold. I tried changing the position of the BLIZZARD jumper but nothing.
I removed the RAM, the coprocessor, the CPU, nothing...
the CPU/PROCESSOR and various integrated circuits remain cool
what could it be?

So does the amiga boot without Blizzard?
If so, then yes, it will be toast.

Yes! It doesn't start without BLIZZARD.... but I've described how the A1200 behaves without BLIZZARD 3. I wanted some information to understand what it could depend on and what the problem could be.

Without witnessing the magic smoke (Will be a quick white smoke). Then it could be anything that’s gone wrong. Possibly one of the Capictors? Have a look around for any burn damage. Apart from that couldn’t say.
I would purchase a new Blizz 1230 mark IV. It’s better than the MK3. Had both and the very rare SCSI addon for the MK3 was not very good. The ScSI MKIV for the MKIV 1230 was very good 👍🏻

I own a BLIZZARD 123050MHZ IV non-SCSI. There are no signs of burning and no integrated circuits get hot. The Blizzard costs €400, buying it again is not an acceptable solution; I would like to repair both.

So to do that. You will need some sort of Electronics knowledge. An Oscilloscope and Multimetre to check circuitry.
Or send it off to someone who maybe prepared to look and possibly repair this.

Good Luck 👍🏻

Highly doubt it will be because of a cap. A1200 can run with no SMD (except 47mf power ones) caps.
If it were a cap, it would have popped. You know when one of them goes pop, white smoke, bad smell and top will be missing or loose.

I would say, remove board from everything and have a really good look around the board. As yellow screen is CPU exception.
Check entire board (forget about Blizzard for now), there has to be something burnt up, if you smelt it. As BB already said, you may have missed smoke.

Could also be PSU, you got another to test, with just the A1200 mainboard (no Blizzard).

I've already used another power supply without BLIZZARD, but the A1200 always gives a yellow screen and 9 power blinks.
Could it be the SMDs?

Is the 030 CPU socketed? I know most are. Have you tried removing this and reseating? Does the card also come with the optional FPU? Try removing this. Have had faulty FPU chips before now stopping systems from working.

For anything like SMD, the. It’s a case of probing and possibly desoldering and removal.

All the best.

I have 2 A1200s and on both, the BLIZZARD IV 123050MHZ doesn't work. I also changed the power supply. I tried the BLIZZARD only with the CPU only, only RAM, only COOPROCESSOR but always a YELLOW screen and no IC or CIP gets hot or warm....they all stay cold.

Hang on, this is getting confusing.

Forget the Blizzard card first, pointless doing any tests until you know you have a working A1200 motherboard.
You said earlier, that the A1200 does not boot even without blizzard. You just get a yellow screen.
Now you say you have 2x A1200's and blizzard does not work on either?

Your going about this all the wrong way, so to clarify.

You have 2x A1200 computers fully working?

I own 2 A1200s..
BLIZZARD does not work on either of the 2 A1200s.
ONLY 1 A1200 froze with a yellow screen, 9 blinking LEDs and then a black screen and restart.
