Any memory card to floppy adapters that work with Amiga?
« on: October 25, 2025, 05:16:12 PM »
I am considering getting an Amiga 1200 to both play games and code my own (with AMOS) as a hobby, and while I want to modify it as little as possible (for the maximum retro experience), one thing I don't want to deal with are floppies. Not only they're prone to damage, but also hard to come by these days. To that end, are there any memory card adapters (particular type of memory card doesn't matter as long as you can get both it and reader for modern PCs)  that can be read in an Amiga floppy drive (floppy disk form factor, can be read in an ordinary drive)? Really want to keep it as vanilla as possible and the only serious modification I consider is a HDMI mod, but only because the monitors Amiga expects are hard to come by these days and I don't have space for a bulky CRT anyway.

Hi, I adapted a GOEX with an A1200 bracket in my A3000, works like a charm (SD card, not USB)

(there is also GOEX on pills ...)

Do you mean a Gotek? These have been around for over a decade.

No, I meant like Flashpath, except without custom drivers. Just something that would make the amiga think a floppy was inserted into the drive when in fact it was not.

@darkhog I've not seen anything like that for Amiga. If you get the A1200 an easy option is the PCMCIA slot. Get a PCMCIA to compact flash adapter, a Compact Flash card, and a USB Compact Flash reader. It's not using the floppy drive but will give you an easy, compatible transfer method.

I know you want to try and stick to vanilla as much as possible but a Hard Disk will make the world of difference (CF card and a 44-pin IDE to CF adapter are cheap, low power and silent.

Options like these will help.
