The strange Amiga external floppy disk drive )
« on: August 20, 2025, 08:24:45 PM »
Hello to the Amiga experts! I got an external 5.25-inch disk drive for an Amiga with a case. When disassembling the case, I saw a Chinon FZ-502 40-track floppy drive, but unfortunately, for some unknown reason, there is no cable connecting the board and the drive itself. The available output from the board is not a standard 34-pin split, but just one row of 17 pins. Moreover, I did not find a ground signal in this row on any contact. Please tell me how to construct the correct cable between the board and the disk drive in this incomprehensible situation. Maybe someone in the collection has a similar version of an external drive? I couldn't find a circuit diagram for a similar external drive design on the web.

Judging by the fragmentary information that I have just come across, it may be a disk drive that was connected to A2088 Bridgeboard or similar, i.e. to emulate PC XT inside the Amiga. However, so far it has not been possible to find any information and there are no thoughts on how to connect the drive and the strange connector on the board inside its case. There is an idea that if the cable was straight without twists, then each of the 17 contacts is connected in turn to the same number on the upper side of the edge connector of the drive. But the question still remains how the ground contact was connected to the corresponding contacts on the bottom of the edge connector.

Although I think this sticker says more that this external disk drive was directly connected to the Amiga.
