A1200 ide socket question
« on: August 01, 2025, 09:55:12 AM »
Does anyone know how much current is safe to draw from the A1200 (600?) socket ?

It can obviously support small ide mechanical HD's but connecting a larger drive would kill the tracks/components in the supporting part of the circuit.

You can use larger drives fine. Wont hurt it. 5v on Amiga PSU is quite decent on Amp's.
You can check current rating on PSU, on bottom, it will tell you Amp ratings.

For years, I had a 248MB Seagate 3.5" Hard Drive connected to my 1200's IDE port...but it got its 5V from the floppy port. Lots of people were doing the same in the 90s, and the required cable was easily obtainable at the time. I believe some Amiga dealers are selling these cables again, I think I saw them for sale last year...somewhere.

Floppy molex to Floppy molex, with large molex coming off it.
3 way as it were.

Splitter cable, but with male instead of female.
