Gotek drive.. odd problem.. Any ideas?
« on: March 12, 2025, 06:05:28 PM »
Hi,

Ran into an odd problem with a Gotek drive and the A2000.  Gotek drive works fine on my main A2000, A500 and A1200 units.  But I have one A2000 where no matter if I plug it in to be internal or via the interface board, external, it will not load the ADF's.  Brings up an icon with ????.    The display properly shows the details of any ADF file I select on the gotek.   The thing that makes this odd is that if I remove the Gotek and plug in a normal Amiga drive, internal OR external, it works fine.

Yes, I have changed the jumper from 0 to 1 and back again. Nothing has changed between pulling it off the other machine and bringing it to this one to plug in so I could install an OS.   Any suggestions?

What revision of A2000 mainboard is it? Have you updated the firmware on the Gotek? Which revision are you on now?

Version 3.43 being the latest stable release:

The machine it works fine on is 6.1 board, the machine I moved it to for testing that machine is a 4.2 board.   The bios on Gotek is the one previous to the latest I think, but that should not impact this problem.    I am going to replace the caps and such for drives just in case it is a power issue.  If that does not correct it, I will have to keep looking.   Remember the standard Amiga drives all test out and work fine, only the gotek is having a problem, internal or external and it works fine on all the other Amigas I have running here.

The reason I asked about the board revision, is because it is a known fact that the A2000 Revision 4 boards are known to be problematic.

If you have a high firmware revision of the Gotek, then that’s great. That is something that can be ruled out.
