It is difficult to tell from the picture but it looks like an external SCSI harddrive enclosure.

Are there any screws on the base?  As it looks like the top case slides out.

Is there any connector on the back of the Amiga matching the one on that external cable?

My guess is SCSI too.

Yup, definitely an old external SCSI hard drive enclosure, so probably an old monster SCSI disk inside with tons of dubious software :)
