Well, I've just pre-ordered a black case+keycaps from RetroPassion, despite still waiting on 2 keycaps sets from the original *2016* Kickstarter.
I won't be very happy if there's a huge keycap delay on this one, as it's a pre-order rather than backing a crowdfunder, but it seemed the best hope of getting a matching case+keycaps any time soon. I'd recently been close to ordering a case from the other side of the world (RetroKit in Australia had a few in stock), but a black or grey case with original yellowed keycaps would just have been taunting me about the keycaps that weren't.
In some ways it might have been better if the keycaps crowdfunder was just written off as a failure years ago, perhaps during Covid. It happens, that's the nature of crowdfunding. If anything, it's been way more frustrating to see seemingly dozens of other projects/production runs by A1200.net, which have repeatedly whooshed past while keycaps remain stalled, years after Covid was a valid justification.
And are we seriously seeing fresh production runs of black keycaps for sale from partners before the CD32-colour keycaps and other variants from that 2016 Kickstarter are manufactured?! Is it really going to hit a decade and still be 'they're coming...'?
But on the other hand, a lot of people *have* received quality products from them, a lot of Amigas have been freed from their old yellowed shells, some even have shiny new keycaps - so they've done a lot of good for the Amiga community. I've had one case myself already. It's just a shame that the keycaps became such a problem.
