A600gs not booting out of "hit any key to continue screen"
« on: September 18, 2024, 04:39:55 AM »
Hello,

Just got this system in the mail, hooked up everything (got the checkmark mouse), I get the loading screen with a checkmark and the system loading audio, then I get to the screen where it says to hit any button to continue and cannot get past it. I've tried everything, 2 different keyboards (one from my Vampire V4 SA,second one just a generic keyboard I use on various systems),several different mice and trackballs, and the included game controller. Absolutely nothing is getting me past this screen.

Very odd, as I boot them 3 times after flashing to ensure they are booting and working correctly with included pad.

What PSU are you using?
Have you tried other usb ports?

Also using front ports with anything other than a Joystick will not work.

So there was one listing saying to use a 2 amp PSU and another mention to use a 3 amp PSU. I got a fast charger usb PSU instead of just using what was on my power strip and everything works just fine now.

Is there a way to copy Octamed to my X5000, or do i have to wait for it to be on sale in the app store?

Finally figured out the issue, which should have been intuitive, but wasn’t in any of the manuals or wiki pages. I needed to use a DB9 game controller or DB9 mouse button to get past the boot screen. Since the system used a usb mouse (I ordered the official check mouse, which I use on my X5000 too!) I assumed the official usb mouse and supplied usb gamepad would work to get past the hit any key screen, but I had a game controller off my A600 and my DB9 trackball handy and both made it work. Once past this screen, usb devices work, including my Simulant Amiga Keyboard.

Well that's weird because whilst DB9 controllers will work (press twice to activate and a further press to get past the startup screen) , USB mice, controllers and keyboards are the ones that are expected to work. I don't know why they wouldn't.

Just one of those fun Amiga quirks I guess. I have no idea if every unit is like this, but since a solution wasn't anywhere I could find, I wanted to share here to help others, and maybe fix it down the line. I felt like I was going crazy until I stumbled across the solution :o ;D Like how my Simulant keyboard works on my X5000, but I have to cycle the power once after booting up.
