« on: September 10, 2024, 09:38:05 PM »
I am trying to import a WHDLoad game .slave and have put the whole folder on usb when i try to add on the GS, i navigate all through the folder tree but it does not see any files to import. So exactly what do i need in place for this to work ???
Also.... How do i get amibench to see a usb stick ??? I see lots of comments about installing software in amibench BUT from where if i cannot get it to see the device that contains the software i want to install.

For slave files, navigate to drawer and then in drop down menu select show all files.
With USB stick, insert it before running amibench.

I have a USB stick, and have put it in before running AmiBench.

It is a Toshiba USB2.0 32GB stick. Formatted to FAT32

The A600 knows its there, as I can install games from the menu but when I load AmiBench I do not see it on the desktop.

What is the designation (as in DF0: for disk drives etc)?
The drive is formatted as FAT32, is that OK or does it need to be something else?

Try NTFS.

Try NTFS.

I tried NTFS - the A600 didn't recognise it in either the menu or AmiBench.
Also tried ExFat, which worked in the menu, but again, didn't show in AmiBench.

Is the NTFS supposed to be a certain version? AFAIK different versions of Windows used different versions of NTFS, and I'm formatting it in Windows 10, which (I think) uses NTFS 5.1

EDIT: just thought of allocation size, does that need to be set to a specific size?
Just trying to think of everything I can

Just a thought, but have you tried a different USB stick?  It might be that particular one that the GS is having issues with.  Also, have you tried it with all the ports on the GS?

I am using a Sandisk USB 3.0 32GB stick, formatted to FAT32, and it has always been recognised in both the menu and AmiBench.

I get it now.

Either Follet wasn't saying it right or I wasn't reading it right.

With USB stick, insert it before running amibench.

That makes it sound to me like you can insert a USB while the A600 is turned on, then start AmiBench and it will work.

I've just found the USB has to be inserted BEFORE TURNING THE A600 ON. If it's inserted while on, even before running AmiBench, then AmiBench won't recognise it.

Just tested with a Verbatim USB 3.0 stick as well as the aforementioned Toshiba drive, both FAT32 - both are recognised in AmiBench if I insert it before turning the A600 on.

Doh, hit modify, :(.

I mean exactly what you said "That makes it sound to me like you can insert a USB while the A600 is turned on, then start AmiBench and it will work".
It works fine if inserted after switch on, it just needs time to mount. If you click add game, it should list it there in drives list.

But that's exactly what I was doing - I would insert the USB drive, click add game and verify that the drive was mounted, after which I would launch AmiBench. But it wasn't working that way. The drive icon was not appearing in AmiBench when done that way.

It only worked for me when I inserted the drive with the A600 off, then switched it on and went into AmiBench afer it booted.

I can replicate that behaviour ! My SanDisk USB Stick 128GB ExFat is working fine with AmiBench as long as it is inserted at boot time, if I take it out while the A600GS is on, it will fail to show up in AmiBench even after a restart of AmiBench BUT it will show up in the A600GS menu (adding games and so on) ...

And yes, other Sticks behave the same, cannot use NTFS by the way, my Mac is unhappy with that solution ;)

If you click add on gs menu, then is it showing there?
If not try refreshing volumes a few times.

That´s the point, it's showing there and I could even add an ADF from that stick but it does NOT show as a drive on AmiBench when I start it !

Only workaround I found is : quit AmiBench -> Edit the AmiBench config -> change ANY menu item (for example from Application to Game and back) and save that config -> restart AmiBench -> now it´s there !

That´s at least faster than restarting the A600GS with the stick inserted ;)

Just opening the edit panel causes a refresh of the list of USB drives, but this should occur when the AmiBench is started. I'll look into to it as soon as I can.

I've made change that should refresh the USB drive list just before starting AmiBench. Available in 820 not sure when that will be ready, lost of other stuff to finish....
