Floppy drive posts and screws for Gotek
« on: August 15, 2024, 04:10:54 PM »
I've just bought another Gotek drive for my A1200.

I'm replacing a broken Gotek floppy drive, which I fitted externally, NOT replacing the floppy drive, which I no longer have. This means I haven't got any posts or screws from the floppy drive which an accompanying video linked to by the seller said I need. https://youtu.be/BT89BdCylC0?si=AFC8LBk_l_aMffeT

The seller has responded that the video showed an A500 anyway, so I might not need the posts and screws. I think I do need them, because my floppy drive was mounted there years ago and now I've got an extended CF card slot underneath there. I'm also worried that something might short out.

I previously fed a ribbon cable through the floppy drive slot, then put the Gotek on top of my Amiga A1200. What should I do now? Are these posts and screws essential? If so, exactly what types are they and where can I get some more?

I'm planning to use this Gotek floppy drive mainly for installing applications, because when I used a Gotek drive in the past, I found that lots of games or even most games wouldn't run on my A1200, even after running the Degrader Kick1.3 software. Obviously, this is due to games programmers not following the Commodore Amiga Inc programming guidelines, although applications programmers did follow their guidelines. Is there anything I could do to make more games compatible with my A1200 when loading them from ADF files on my Gotek? I think I've tried everything.
