Trying to decide between buying an X5000 and an A1222+
« on: July 20, 2024, 08:20:54 PM »
My main application would be MIDI but the quote I'm getting for an X5000 is well over 3000 Euros
whereas the A1222+ is advertised for half that.

I'm not a gamer, so I don't need a high-speed Amiga. What does the X5000 have that the A1222+ doesn't
that I might need?

I would suggest you post your question at amigans.net where the majority of AmigaOS 4 users are. You might find more answers there.

I suggest you buy a classic Amiga, such as an A500, A2000, A500+, A3000, A600, A1200, or A4000 for a lot less money from eBay or wherever you can find one, such as being thrown out, or from an ewaste place, or a thrift store.

The A2000, A3000, and A4000 have expansion slots for plug in cards, but the other Amigas only have trap door expansion slots, although they also seem to be of the same Zorro type. These could be extended with a classic Bodega Bay expanion unit, or a classic or modern Checkmate Digital case. I don't think that the X5000 or the A1222+ with OS4 are all that much like the Amiga at all.

I DO have, and frequently use, a tricked-out Amiga 4000 and
have an Amiga 4000 Mediator tower (under repair).
I also have a nonfunctioning A2000 Bomac Tower and an A1200 Power Tower
that friends have given me.

It's very difficult to get repair service for an Amiga, which is why I've bought a
new X5040.

A3000s & A4000s are rare to find and attract higher prices. There are a couple of A4000's on amibay at the moment.

A2000s offers good expansion (more so than the A3000) and come up for sale more frequently and are more attractively priced. You can expand them quite easily too - Terrible Fire; PiStorm etc

A2000 might be a good option.

Weed
A3000T, Cybervision64, CSMKII 060; A3000D, PicassoII, Z3 Fastlane; A2000D, 040, PicassoII; A4000D, A1200, Blizzard 030 MKIV  (not working - next project)
