A600gs Problems
« on: July 19, 2024, 01:36:05 PM »
I received my A600gs yesterday, I really like it, but there are a number of problems with it.

Backup/Restore:
Restore to Inbuilt Defaults non-functional

Menu System:
Dialog '\n' not working, showing 'N'

Amibench:
Copying files/data from USB does not work - 0 byte files.
Cannot change screen resolution
Cannot resize/change fonts - unable to restart Amibench, requiring restore from my user backup.

These are with firmware 46.1.751, my system says there is an update today - 46.1.762 however, I cannot update:

Says there is an update, click and nothing happens.
Try again and buttons greyed out, unable to do anything. Forced reboot required.

I'm sure these are all teething problems that will be fixed.

Lastly SysInfo crashes the emulator and goes back to the disk selection menu!

Backup/Restore:
Restore to Inbuilt Defaults non-functional

I will report this.

Menu System:
Dialog '\n' not working, showing 'N'

It doesn't allow certain characters.

Amibench:
Copying files/data from USB does not work - 0 byte files.
Cannot change screen resolution
Cannot resize/change fonts - unable to restart Amibench, requiring restore from my user backup.

0kb files, we are aware of, being debugged.
Will report other 2 issues.

These are with firmware 46.1.751, my system says there is an update today - 46.1.762 however, I cannot update:

Says there is an update, click and nothing happens.
Try again and buttons greyed out, unable to do anything. Forced reboot required.

Your a bit to quick, it was being uploaded, hence you could not update.

Lastly SysInfo crashes the emulator and goes back to the disk selection menu!

Not sure on this, will have to ask.

I'll try the update again.  As I said, these are probably just teething problems, overall I'm very impressed with the device and can appreciate the work that has gone into it.

Still unable to update.  Says it's available, I click Install Update.
A dialog appears, I click to confirm.
Another dialog appears saying "A600GS FIRMWARE UPDATE IS IN PROGRESS" etc.
After a second or so, it goes back to the original "Amisphere Profile" screen.

I have a video, I can send privately as it contains personal info (name, email etc)

Does it include messages like

fetching system.lhapps
fetching a600gs-deb

processing ....

 etc?

Another update has just been pushed 46.1.765

So please try again.

Thank you for you patience.

The current update fixes the 0 byte issue, but will need a reboot before it takes effect. Just select RestartA600GS from the shutdown/reset menu

No that hasn't worked either.  Same as before, it said something about downloading a file, it vanished off the screen and aborted in a second.

Re-booted and tried again several times, it's not having it.

@THX-1138

Hi, sorry to hear of the download issue.

I just tried updating my personal A600GS and it downloaded the latest public update without problems.

Please keep trying.  It maybe that your connection is dropping for some reason.  Maybe even try pairing with your mobile phone or another wifi network ?

Since restoring to inbuilt defaults doesn't work on mine.  I've restored everything from the user backup I did when I first got it.  I then rebooted and tried the update again.

It downloaded a number of files, maybe 9 or more and said it would soft boot after.  Then the dialog vanished, the Amisphere Profile screen is showing, everything else is greyed out and it's not doing anything.

Short of cutting the power I don't know what to do now.

You have no option but to pull power. When you try again, first select something in GS games menu, like octamed. Then go to update, if it gets stuck. Press Start on joypad.
This is a little trick to get out of it. It will launch the last thing you had selected. You can then use pause menu to get back to GS main menu.
We are aware of this issue and its being looked into. I get this myself, however its generally, when a new update is currently being uploaded.

I continued to try but made no progress.  It will not update.

I also discovered OctaMed will not launch from the menu, it starts to load then crashes back out to the menu.

Same here  :( I only get a grey screen and the systems returns to the launcher.

Games work, but starting Amibench or applications that rely on it (Final Writer, DOpus etc.) crash.
It seems like altering things on Amibench (like font sizes e.g.) make the system fail at the (next) start.

Until today I was able to restore the system to the inbuilt defaults, but that does not help now (I clicked it several times after a reboot, fresh start and with different combinatios of volumes / partitions to restore).

Any advice on how to cure this?

I get an error like shown in the attachment.
