weird pointer 'artifact' in Picasso96/CG64/3D
« on: January 04, 2003, 06:44:15 PM »
I have built up an A2000 system using Picasso96 and a CGX64/3D video card.  All is working well, BUT, to the right and slightly below the mouse pointer, is a large red square 'artifact' that I can't seem to get rid of, it effectively is a large 'tail' on the pointer. - I have tried so far:

1) turned off all custom stuff in the User-startup and startup-sequence, no effect (this included MUI and newIcons, etc.);
2) removed all from wbstartup, no effect.
3) messed around with screenmode stuff, no effect (I'm currently using an 800x600 8bit, 64 color screen)
4) redid the pointer, downloaded several alternative pointers from aminet, but no effect.

any additional thoughts?  I was wondering if it were more 'fundamental', some incompatibility of software somewhere with sprite redraws or something?

I seem to have fixed the problem - I had to swap out the CDRW drive from using the Wildfire accel. card SCSI channel, because it wasn't writing CDs correctly (the IDE one I replaced it with doesn't seem to either for some weird reason) but upon reboot, that seems to have gotten rid of the 'artifact'.  Pretty weird.

So if you're using a DKB Wildfire accel in your a2000, you may encounter this, not sure.

Wow... that's really strange...  SCSI channel can affect a mouse pointer?  And here I was set to remind someone that you can only have three real colors (and a weird XOR effect) on a RTG mouse arrow.  ;-)

I had the same problem.
I was comming from one memory chip on the card. Just by pressing on it a little the artifact would disapear. I guess that the fact that you open your case and move around things into your computer may have put the chip in a better contact position. It may come back as soon as you move your computer again ...  :-o

pretty weird, to be sure.  what was the memory chip you were pressing on (loose RAM, or?)

If I remember well some of the mem chips are on socket.
It was one of these (can not remember which one exactely).
