Amiga 2000 video issue
« on: May 18, 2024, 11:41:17 AM »
Hello everyone, I recently bought an Amiga 2000 that didn't work due to battery acid.
I managed to clean everything up, even replacing the socket of AGNUS, 68K and Kickstart. The problem is that at a cold boot the computer works very well, it loads the floppies and I do the ram test without problems, but after a few minutes of use strange graphic gliths like the one in the photo begin to appear, it stops loading floppies and goes into guru meditation.

Do you have any idea where to start looking to figure out what's not working? Thank you very much!

Did you clean up the whole area that was affected by the battery damage?

Sometimes it goes beyond the keyboard connector and into the RAM chip area.

Also check for any VIAs that might have got damaged, especially around and under chips close by.

Do you have pictures of the main board in its current condition?

Thank you very much for your reply,
I thoroughly cleaned every sign of oxidation, removed it with a fiberglass pen and reapplied the solder-mask, as in the images below

I also did a recap of the power supply and now the voltages when the computer is on are 4.88v / 11.67v / -11.40v / -5.08v

I also noticed something. If I restart the Amiga 2000, when it's hot and has the graphical glitches, it doesn't load the Kickstart but goes directly into guru meditation, but if I insert a Buddha IDE, which has a small RAM expansion on board, it loads the kickstart, but still full of artifacts. So I'm starting to think that there's some ram module that doesn't work well or at least some track related to memory management. Unfortunately I don't have a DiagROM to be able to test.

What do you think?
