Using JPEG datatypes in AOS3.1.4
« on: October 22, 2023, 06:49:50 PM »
I must ask this question even if I feel like complete retarded, but I just forgot and can't find answer googleing around.. Anyways, here I have this wonderful A4000D with 060, ZZ9000, nice hires Workbench, BUT I just can't open image files (like JPEG) automagically by doubleclicking on 'em.. I have JPEG and other datatypes in Devs/Datatypes folder, but how do I assign some image viewing program to open files by doubleclicking? Do I have to make def_icon stuff for these or what? And by the way, what would be the fastest viewing program with autoscale?

I've long since given up looking at any photos on my machines but when I did try I found a quick program that could open without datatype was Visage.

Multiview is supposed to open all kinds of files if you have the datatypes for it.

Thomas developped a fast viewer years ago called PicShow; grab it from here : http://thomas-rapp.homepage.t-online.de/amiga/picshow.html

O.K. Thank you guys, the main question here was, is it possible to open images by DOUBLECLICKING on files even without icons? I sure have used Multiview, but this doesn't autoscale images, there isn't even simple zoom in/out possibility. And image files aren't opening automatically, i have to type this "Multiview filename.jpg" on "execute a file" requester window every time I doubleclick on image file..

Easiest option is to upgrade to 3.2, which comes with DefIcons, which is what you’re missing.

Alternatively, set default tooltype on the envarc:sys/def_project.info to multiview, which then will affect all files not recognized as “tool”.
