A3000 battery removal easy!
« on: March 17, 2004, 03:28:15 PM »
Hi everyone!
I finally took the advice and removed the evil battery from my A3000. I used my Leatherman tool and gently rocked the battery back and forth. It snapped off clean and easy.

This isn't stated enough! Those batteries are OLD! Get 'em out!

Good job. :-)

This has been mentioned a few times recently, but it probably isn't getting through to as many people as it should :-(

If you need a "beginners" guide for doing a more complete job (diagnosing battery problems, replacing the battery, RTC repairs, etc) then I've written a guide along with pictures:

@Castellen

That's a really good documentation, thanks in the name of the whole community.

I've also replaced all batteries from all of my computers -- also owning a couple of old x86 having the same problem.
I've always used cables to get some distance between the board and the new battery and put the battery into a sealed bag, so they won't damage the board if they leak again in a few years.
