Quake 2 for Amiga
« on: March 14, 2004, 04:39:41 AM »
I've noticed the sources from Hyperion are on aminet. Does anyone know where I can or if I can even get the executable to play Quake 2 PPC? I have the PC CD and can use the files from it.

Hyperion's Quake 2 port is commercial, and available from many Amiga dealers.

But being GPL, they had to provide source code (Which they did, by sending CD to everyone who 1) owned their Quake 2 port and 2) requested it)

Someone who requested the sources then uploaded them to Aminet, which is of course perfectly legal for code released under GPL.

It would also be perfectly legal for someone to download Quake 2 sources from Aminet, compile them, and upload executable there, but it seems that no-one has done that yet.

(There's also yet unreleased MorphOS port of Quake 2 that's not based on Hyperion's source codes, but as it's unreleased, sources are aswell)

Hmm if anyone has the tolls and know how out there to compile it pease let me know. I cant find it for sale here in the US. Everyone I have asked is sold out. I'd love to start playing it again on Amiga this time.

Have you tried getting the PC version of Quake 2 and then you can copy the graphics wad files of it and then just install the Amiga programs to use them?

Anyway I going to have a go at compiling the Q2Src from Amiga. If you like a copy of the binary. Email me at

god I would love too I have a copy sitting on my desk since Amiwest last year. Thats when I purchased several copies haven't had time to play yet.

looks like I won't get a chance tonight thought.

I hooked two 120 gig drives on a single chain on my PC and windows handled it with its usual aplomb it ate the IDE drivers. The goes my CAD project down the tubes as I desperatlry try to reinstall windows without losing all of my work. pulling hair and cursing. God I wish they made CAD programs that use anything but windows!!!
on the Plus side My A1200 is working fine thats what I am typing this on. My Aone hard drive melted Saturday at the AOS4.0 demo so thats side lined for now until I reinstall linux and AOS4.0 on a new Hard drive.

kgrach

will let you know about QuakeII working on a mediator Voodoo combo in the next week or so. It should work fine!

cases are in but haven't been assembled yet.

lots of work Great but the cases are pushed to the back burner at least for the next few weeks. Got some Aones to get out. Existing orders have to take priority.
