Mediator
« on: January 10, 2019, 04:37:45 PM »
Hi every one, I used to have the Mediator V1 a few years ago but I got so fed up of the slow speed on webpages I got rid of it.But having a re-think is the newer version of the Mediator 6 PCI slot much faster?Haw fast is it with downloading webpages? Is it worth my while or not?I am on Virgin with a fast download speed.My main specs are A1200 Apollo Turbo MkIII 40Mhz with FPU at 40Mhz and 32 Meg of fast ram. Powertower.Is it worth buying the newer Mediator?TIA,Mike.

hi, I don't think the Mediator is slowing down your browser as much as your CPU...on my CS-MKIII with 060@50 and latest IBrowse webpages pop up pretty fast but not so that fast using my Blizzard 030@50

Web being slow has nothing to do with download speed.!!

68030 cpu 40mhz, is just too slow for that.

68030 = 386
68040 = 486
68060 = 586 aka Pentium

68060 renders this page about 25 seconds. So 68030 would render this page about 200 seconds.

You don't need a Mediator to surf web, just get PCMICA NIC, it woun't slow down you system. Slowdown is because lack of raw cpu power.

On an 030 you definitely need to turn off Javascript in IBrowse, then things should display at a perfectly reasonable speed. Don't expect many webpages to display correctly though.  :P For that you'll need Netsurf, but you'll need a fast 68060 ideally.

OK guys thank you for your help here.A lot of good advice. RIght now I cant afford a new accelerator card, but saying that the tax man owes me a lot so if he pays up (yeah right)Then I am greatly thinking of the Vampire V4, with what the tight fisted B"$£%^D needs to give me back I can afford that nicely.
And get rid of my Apollo Turbo Mkiii 40Mhz wIth the FPU at 40Mhz and 32Meg of fastram to go with it.
So we shall see how this turns out.....
Watch this space........
