D.I.Y Amiga 1000 Kickstart ROM

Hi!

I’ve recently obtained an Amiga 1000 and wanted to try some accelerators I’ve assembled (TF530) as well as the 8mb and IDE adaptors sold by MKL on the English Amiga Board.

The first issue I had was with the lack of space for these addons, and then the requirement of having Kickstart in ROM for the accelerators to work.

So a few days of reading KiCad documentation later I decided to try to make my own Kickstart adaptor and socket shifting circuit board.

I am now able to stack both of these units as well as fit a TF530 accelerator without having to remove he floppy drive.  I can even replace the metal shield!

I’ve included instructions on how to modify your A1000 to use the Kickstart ROM included on this board, as well as the gerber files so you can build your own.  I also have a few left over if anyone is interested.

Unfortunately, no.

This board, along with the modifications in the link I provided:

• disables the WCS 256K RAM
• shifts the 68000 socket so you can fit some socket expansions with the floppy drive intact (and even the shield in some cases!)
• provides a socket for you to install a 512k kickstart ROM in your A1000 so no more kickstart disk!

There are additional mods that leave the WCS RAM intact with caveats (non autoconfig, additional changes to the WCS board, etc.)

I'm not familiar enough with them, and haven't dedicated much time to researching them as I don't think the expense and debauchery is worth it for an additional 256k of non autoconfig fast RAM  ;)
