Something is going on
« on: March 09, 2004, 09:24:03 AM »
Hello,

I'm one of those people that keeps my ear to the ground... and it seems something is going on in red circles.

1.  A few weeks ago, DaveyD, of Amigaworld.net posted a news item about a KMOS Inc having purchased the Amiga rights.  A news item also appeared on ANN, the news item was then promptly removed from AW.net and subsequently ANN, and dismissed as a hoax.

On its own, this isn't worth commenting on.

2.  A few days ago, it was announced that AmigaWorld.net's Ask Fleecy section is now cancelled.  No logical reason given.

3.  After sniffing around in #amigaworld like the hound-dog I am, I came over some interesting comments by DaveyD.  He said that something will be announced on Amigaworld.net in a few days, and he said that it would be a big boost.

Clearly, something is going on.  My theory is that the venture capitalist firm that bankrolled Amino Inc has finally managed to unearth Bill, Fleecy & co from their non-cooperation policy.

Interesting times indeed.
Will the new regime of Amiga Inc (KMOS?) be interested in AmigaOS, or will they try to revive AmigaDE.  I suspect it is years too late for DE - the mobile market has passed the fast growth stage and the main players are now established.  It's too difficult for a new boy to get in.

Will KMOS be more friendly towards Genesi?

I just don't even try to follow anymore, if anything significant happes I'm sure I'll find out. I just can't be {bleep}ed with following peoples theories, and announcements all the time.
Restraining orders are just another way of saying I love you!

If your conclusions about a regime change of this type are true (I have no idea)...  Then, most likely, the crew coming in will be the cleanup crew.  In other words, they'll have no plans for future at all, other than scuttling anything that might sell to regain any money.  Then they can write off the whole Amiga Inc venture as a loss, and save on next year's taxes.

I have a feeling they'll be very friendly toward anyone with an interest and money.  (Of course, I've heard people debating how much money Genesi has....)

I did think the timig of that was a bit odd.  Normally you would announce the closure of a regular feature either just before or at the time of the last article, but this was a week or so afterwards.

I don't really care enough any more to speculate what is, or is not happening with Amiga Inc.  Unless they've been bought out, they're completely a non-issue any more.

The KMOS "announcement" of a few weeks ago however was bogus, which is why it was never posted here.  The fact that it made it onto AW.net is a bit surprising though.

Excuse my ignorance... What is KMOS?

How long do you keep flogging a dead horse? It's always good to stop when you realise that it's not going to move :-(

Maybe Hyperion asked him to stop, as it was just becoming a source of entertainment. "Ask Frediens" would have been a much better and frankly more useful feature.

Excellent point.  I hadn't considered that the new management team may well be be simply tasked with winding up the company and selling on whatever assets are left.

I don't believe it was exactly true, however I'm not surprised it made to news at Amigaworld.net.  DaveyD, who posted the news and who certainly isn't the type of person to base news on an anonymous story he read on MooBunny, clearly has heard recent background stories or other reports that suggested to him this story was believable - at least enough to post as news.

Added to this, his comments about some forthcoming news he knows about on this topic that will give OS4 a "big boost", suggests that something is indeed going on, and we'll find out shortly.

I still think I'm right with my theory - that the venture capitalists have won their standoff with McEwan & co and managed to get rid of them.

The good news for OS4 that results from this new situation could mean that the VC firm wants to sell off all Amiga Inc's assets and a friendly party has agreed to buy it - perhaps Eyetech?

Ages ago, someone posted the URL of the venture capitalist firm's website which bankrolled Amino Inc.  On their page they had a list of investments... Amiga being one of them.  Has anyone got the address?  It might be an idea to check whether Amiga is still listed...

Sometimes it takes years before people wake up and see that it's not moving.. (or never been moving).

Becoming? ... Well, it may well be matter of perspective, but IMHO these Ask-Fleecy sessions have been joke from the very beginning of them.
