My amiga failed...but came back
« on: February 12, 2018, 05:12:08 PM »
Hi:

I just bought batman the caped crusader from ebay for my a2000.
The game  worked fine and I spent a long time enjoying playing.
When the screen came up at dying, where it says press space bar
to restart the game, I pressed both amiga keys and the other one
to reset the amiga. Instead of booting, I got a red screen flashing
and the hd light flashed. I tried a few times, and every time
I power off my amiga and turned back on, I got the red screen.
I thought my amiga died, and was very sad.
But I tried to power on my amiga one more time, and this time
the amiga booted fine into workbench. Now the amiga is working fine
and it powers on everytime. I am so happy.
I do not know what happened, my guess is when I resetted the amiga,
the game was loading or doing something.
I would like to know what went wrong.
Thank you all !!!

Red is supposed to be an error in Kickstart.  You could try making sure the the kickstart chip is seated properly

Whenever you get anything like that happen just wait thirty seconds or so before switching your Amiga back on. Sometimes stuff from games gets held in memory and evades the soft and hard boot. I tend to just go make a cuppa tea and then start over.

I find the same thing on mine.  It seems like unplugging it helps but all I really think that's doing is adding to the time that the power is turned off.. nothing magical about pulling out the cord, but it works.  I guess its all those lovely capacitors.

Hi:

Thank you for the replies.
My amiga is working fine. I even played shadow of the beast and all is good.
I guess it was not a serious problem.
It reminded me that years ago, when I had an amiga 500, sometimes
I got a guru meditation error, and the amiga resetted but nothing bad
happened. Nothing bad happened this time, it just just flashed a red
screen a couple times when booting, but the last time I powered
it off and on, and came back working fine.
There is only one more thing: I loved playing batman -the caped crusader-
and I wish to keep playing it, I am just afraid it might damage my amiga 2000.
Cheers !!!

Some stuff (like virus programs) can stay in memory after you soft-boot. That's how you have things like recoverable RAM drives.

I'm not aware of any hardware bugs that can be exploited via software to physically damage any Amiga model.

Hi:

I believe the batman game is free from viruses.
NOt only the game worked fine, after powering the amiga off and on
the amiga still works fine. Everything runs good, the hd is good to go.
Only when soft booting from batman I got the red screen.
I guess now is impossible the amiga will get damaged from playing
batman. I am so happy, I can still play batman (I loved the game).
Thank you all for replies !!!
