Will the NEC 1990FX 15kHz monitor work correctly in games?
« on: February 08, 2018, 04:08:07 AM »
Hi, I'm trying to find info on the NEC 1990fx LCD monitor which is confirmed to support 15kHz, does anyone own this model? can they confirm it works well?. I've seen pictures floating around on the net of the 1970nx model and it looks as if the bottom couple lines of the screen are cut off in games? thanks.

A 15KHz monitor is a 15KHz monitor no matter what. The Amiga's output is 15KHz. No matter what software/game you run is going to produce the same output to the monitor.

BUT!, there's this thing with Amiga's know as PAL (50Hz) & NTSC (60Hz) output. There must be at least a thousand posts on the subject and it's effects on Amiga games.

I'm not even going to try to pick out one all inclusive post... so without further ado.... click this link. :rtfm:

The 1990 models are not listed in this 15Khz compatible monitors DB but NEC units show good compatibility. I have a 71V variant and works fine.

About the clipped screen, I've never found a LCD capable of displaying the full picture of machines like X68000 (and moreover the LCD monitors don't have a way to resize both XY dimensions); but never found a problem with Commodore machines, all of them show the full picture.
Usually, the only problem comes when you use the Hi-res laced modes, most models will give you crappy quality. I've ended using a modded A520 to get the best quality, sacrificing some sharpness and getting picture stability instead.
