4000 dead?
« on: January 31, 2018, 01:37:29 AM »
I'm waiting for my PCC jumper kit adapter to come from Amigakit.
I found a bad cap in old power supply  600 volt uf 1 and changed it out still nothing on computer not even power supply fan spinning. i found out power supply need load so here it try
When i got this computer it came with extra kickstart chips ones that are in it  do not have a notch at end.
Extra chips are marked 391524-01 other chip 391523-01
What chip goes in what socket on motherboard?
Would bad or installed wrong chips cause this?
what should i have as bare bones to try to get life out of this machine?
Will try to get a photo soon

Bad kickstarts wouldnt cause the PSU to not power up. I would bet this PSU is dead, you can send me the board to test if you like. I cant promise a quick return if it needs work, but I can at least tell you if its good or bad. Another option is to get an ATX adapter and test it from Amigakit.

I have made  a ATX power supply work with the Amiga 4000. First tried it and and got the "insert boot disk screen" good so far. Next I hooked up hard drive and machine booted up off that. It does not see any chip memory all banks full and mouse moves but  looks like in busy mode with  clock around pointer. Computer had the normal battery failure and I cleaned up everything the best i could without removing any chips.
What to try next before sending it to Acill ?
