Looks like 9-pin serial to RJ-11.  We use one here to convert the serial port on an old server to a "telephone plug style" jack used on an employee timeclock.  Could have other uses, but probably pretty rare to see one today.  ;)

alot of terminal servers used these to change wire types.  in data centers, cat5 is cheaper and easier then running serial cables...

Most (if not all) professional networking gear still comes with support for console on RS232, and those use either DB9 or RJ45 as plug.
The equivalent of the above adapter is a cable with DB9 in one end and RJ45 in the other end, known as a rollover cable.

Well, I know we use it, got an "octopus" server on every location with rs232 console access to all network gear, it's quite normal I'd say. :)

Nope, not really. Amiga has a custom DB25 serial port anyways :)

The ZX Spectrum (at least the +2 onward) used RJ-11 for it RS232 port.

Neat stuff.
I've used lots of VT100/VT52 compatible terminals in the past, but I never saw those before.
Looks really useful.
And yeah, Cat5 wiring is much cheaper than most other solutions.

Cat5 is of course RJ45 rather than RJ11, but I have seen (in the distant past) RJ45 sockets used to provide an RJ11 plug with comms.
TBH, the op's post looks more like a serial to RJ45 converter, I still see those in places - doesn't convert to ethernet - simply changes the connectivity in order that serial can be more easily cabled up elsewhere using premade ethernet cables.
