DMS 1.51 is an lousy hack. Try to find dmsV204 somewhere on the net.

The latest official dms is V1.11. All others are hacks. dms V2.04 is IMHO the best of the hacks.

I'm not sure I fully understand.  I use DMS v1.53 (which I'm assuming is a hack from your post) and it works great.  Does that mean anything I compress using it will require that version or higher?  I haven't used anything else for a very very long time, but I plan on sharing some disks and want to make sure I'm not going to be causing other people problems.  Is this v2.04 freeware?  I'm unaware of many of the legal situations now that most of these companies are non-existent.  Is DMS still the most common used program for compressing disks?  I'm still trying to bring the old memory to life here!  :-D

Thanks for the link blobrana.  I've skimmed through it and will read it in detail.  I guess one thing I'm still left wondering though is: What is the primary format people use for archiving/compressing their Amiga disks today?

Keep in mind that I have just started getting back into my Amiga this week (after about 10 years away from it).  I remember most games I would download being .DMS files and then files that could be run right from hard drive mostly being compressed with .LHA

I see talk on here about .ADF files (I think that's what they were called) and haven't done enough reading to know what they are yet.  It feels strange being such a newb in the Amiga community after so many years of using one!  :-P

Thanks to everyone for their help so far.  Hopefully I can be a resource for things once I get back up and running again.

Hum,
forget about .ADF files  as they`re only really relevant to winuae (etc) on a PC ...

As you may have noticed most files are still in .lha format on Aminet...
