GoldenGate 486slc
« on: October 17, 2017, 09:37:43 AM »
Hi,
I have this card and during the first start I get following error message "Fatal error: Signal IOCHCK on the ISA-bus is shorted to GND". After reset there is no more such error message and the card seems to work properly.
Does anyone know what this error means?
Thank you.

Odd, I didn't know the ISA bus was supposed to float or remain high.
I'd double check the system without any accessory cards.

If you search for single board computer ISA/PCI you can find tons of them on ebay for great prices, some as low as $100 even with core duo and up processors, SATA, USB and all other modern stuff. Sure its not a bridge and it cant be used by the Amiga at all, but it sits in an Amiga ISA slot and draws power. You can use a KVM switch and run full blown Windows 10 on them all hidden inside an amiga case.

Amazing cards, and love the one I got. Its a i5 with 32GB of RAM and a small PCI video card on it even.

Here is one with a Pentium M for $75 and free shipping as an example

Bad example: it's got a bursting cap near the CPU, lower left.

But what about your card?  What make is it, etc.?

I'd thought of that myself for my A2000, but I already have way too much X86/X64 hardware (and come to think of it, maybe too Amiga related hardware....nah).

BTW - How ya doin', Paul?

Will this activate ISA slots?? It is because of my Roland LAPC and old Soundblaster sitting in ISA slots why I like GG.

Sure, SBCs use the ISA bus. Often they already have sound chips, but I've often thought about digging out my old AWE64 and adding a wavetable card. It was a great sound solution in its day.
And the Roland LAPC you have is pretty cool too.

Some activate the ISA slots, some dont. It depends on the card. The point is you CAN have a modern PC inside a box box Amiga if you get creative.

Well, sort of modern anyway.
I'm not sure I'd want to rely on ISA for expansion, I haven't used it since the '90s and its sllloooowww.
Heck, even PCI at 33MHz is limiting.
