Wanted: Escom OS 3.1 disk set
« on: October 13, 2017, 06:15:23 AM »
I'm looking to buy an original set of the Escom AmigaOS 3.1 install/Workbench etc disks.
In a folder would be preferable.
Thanks.:)

Just found I have Cloanto Workbench 3.1 adf files for the six disks and have written those to disk. No real urgency for Escom disks. Thanks. :)

Like you I have ADF's as well but would love an original disc set.  Kick myself for selling my old gear :/

I really am confused about the continued interest in the grey/blue Workbench that is 3.1 when 3.9 is still available!!!

Good for low-spec systems, especially with something like BetterWB.

Also, some people still can't seem to figure out the proper order to install the Boing Bag updates, and wind up screwing their systems all up.

That being said, this whole thread was kind of confusing.  When he said he wanted a copy of "Escom OS 3.1", I assumed he was some kind of collector who wanted the disks from during the Escom era, with the original packaging and labels.  Dunno, since regular Workbench 3.1 disks are available all over the place.  #Headscratch

I'll just leave this here:

Haha! But seriously what is the benefit of installing Boing Bags 3 & 4 (after first installing 1 and the 2)? Since they are unofficial I've never chanced it.

Continued updates beyond what was available 15 years ago (when BB 1 & 2 were released).

The changelog is publicly available:

If you don't want those things, I mean, that's up to you.  No one forcing it on ya (not like Windows 10 with its forced updates, lol).  But you should at least download the archive and pick & chose the updated components you want from it.  My .02 cents.

Or at least for godsake install the Peter K. icon library (which is also part of the updated BB's), haha!  ;)

"This library can now display the 32 bit ARGB icons of OS4 on any AGA screen with the normal 8 bit color mapping of OS 3.5+. WB:icon->info will convert these icons into the OS 3.5 format! The old style planar images of the OS4 icons are replaced now by the smaller internal default images since many were broken."

Interesting if you want OS4 icons to work on OS3.9 but if your happy with OS3.5/3.9 Glow Icons then again why bother?

"The icon.library has been written completely in optimized ASM code with IconBeFast 2 already built in. It works much faster now and is also a lot smaller than the original icon.library."

Yeah, on reflection that does actually sound quite important! Thanks Oldsmobile_Mike!
