Anyone runnig 2560x1440 on X5000 ?
« on: September 24, 2017, 03:43:14 AM »
Anyone here that owns the X5K and running a rez of 2560x1440?  What video card you using?

Just purchased a nice HP Omen 32" display that does 2560x1440 but no matter what I do in screenmodes, automatic or manually creating a 2560x1440, ot does not show in monitors as an option.

I am guessing my lowly Radeon HD 7750 is not up for the job and can't do that high of rez out the HDMI or DVI port it has.

Maybe time for a new better video card.

Radeon HD 7750 should run 4096x2160 @ 60 Hz using DisplayPort 1.2, so it should be possible to do 1440p. Are you using HDMI/DVI/DisplayPort? I would try to do connection Display Port do Display Port (if I had PC, I have no idea about X5000 :), but your Radeon should be able to display 1440p).

The Radeon I have only has two ports.... HDMI and DVI.  No display port.

"DVI" can either be single link (1920x1200@60Hz) or dual link (2560x1600@60Hz).

Might be that the card won't dual link, might also be that it is not properly setup by SW.
1. Make an announcment.
2. Wait a while.
3. Check if it can actually be done.
4. Wait for someone else to do it.
5. Start working on it while giving out hillarious progress-reports.
6. Deny that you have ever announced it
7. Blame someone else

Make sure you have a dual link cable?

Then HDMI should work.

Atleast, several 7750 I have do that resolution with a dvi 2 hdmi cable with 4.1. The card is ok.

Maybe I have a cable issue? Is there a different hdmi cable I need or some special dvi cable?

My 7750 only has two ports. 1 hdmi and 1 dvi.

I see some dvi cables like y cables but that appears to be for a card with 2 dvi ports. Mine does not have 2 dvi ports.

The Radeon HD 7750 certainly can do 2560x1440. However, if it's an HDMI monitor, then you'll need RadeonHD.chip v1.21+ or 2.22+. Those versions enable higher pixel clock frequencies to be used with HDMI 1.3+ monitors, which is needed for such high resolutions (on a single-link cable; AFAIK, only DVI has dual-link).

Other things that can interfere:
- Using the wrong monitor input. My monitor appears to only allow full UHD on one HDMI input
- If you're using a KVM, then it may also limit the resolution. Mine's only good up to 1920x1080

I had the same monitor and had the same exact issue and then i tried some other monitors capable of 4k and same black screen..what fixed the issue was inside Dev folder in System, there is file called Radeon HD 6450..right click on it and go to info and make sure under icon tab that the resolution is in there. I had to this with an older monitor that only supported 1920x1080. Once entered in the correct resolutions, everything worked on thereafter.

Strange. I had my monitor's tool-types set to auto-detect (DDCMODE=All), and the screenmodes just showed up... after I plugged it in to the correct HDMI input (the monitor won't to 4K on all inputs for some reason).

I have confirmed this Omen display can work in 2560x1440 on both HMDI ports form the back of it while connected to my Macbook Pro.  Looks wonderful.  So both ports are ready for 2560x1440.

Yes my RadeonHD.chip is 2.22 from 3/25/217.

I have confirmed in the Radeon 7700 in my Dev:Monitor directory that the info screen shows Mode 2560x1440@60 (even tried 2560x1440@75 too since my display can do that) so it is there after manually creating it of course.  The AutoDetect of ScreenMode does not pick it up so I had to make it.

Via HDMI to HDMI or DVI to HDMI, neither cable shows 2560x1440 in ScreenMode Prefs on the "Available Modes" side of screen prefs for me to select it.  Shows on the Monitors side of the ScreenMode Prefs and I have it check marked too along with several others.

So right now I have the Detect Settings Automatically off.

In fact, when I have Auto Detect on, I only get PAL 640x480 and BootVGA:Productivity modes appear and my X5K only boots to a very LARGE 640x480 .

No other better mode appears like 1920x1080 unless I turn off Auto Detect and manually do them.

Maybe via HDMI the Radeon HD 7750 cant work and I need some special DVI to HDMI cable to make it work?

I see these Dual Link cables online but confusing as they have like a Y cable with two DVI ends and one HDMI end.  My 7750 only has 1 DVI port so...

Regards

I say it is some sort of driver issue. I had HP Envy 32 (2560x1440) running fine using DVI to HDMI cable (like this: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000HDL08Q/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1) on 680 gtx (on PC).

HDMI should be find for you.

BTW. Don't believe this HDMI rev. 1.4 cable BS. I run 4k on HDMI cable for $3 :).

That is not a dual link DVI cable. Go to Wikipedia, it explains the difference. Long story short, dual link has more pins. I don't have any experience with an Amiga at this screenmode but have had similar problems with a PC - the higher resolution screenmode did not become available in display prefs until I switched to the correct cable. Even HDMI didn't work because with the particular monitor I was using (a 27" Dell display) it had a maximum input resolution of 1920x1080 through its HDMI port. A limitation of that particular model which was only resolved by using the correct cable. Good luck!
