WHDLoad issues: do any of these games work for you?
« on: September 23, 2017, 08:45:56 AM »
Hi all! Over the years I've spent quite some time with WHDLoad but there's a handful of games that just refuse to work on my configuration (see below).

I'm wondering, am I the only one with these issues? Anyone else with a BlizzPPC/060 combo running OS3.9 that managed to get these games working? Would love to hear (and exchange configuration details)!

Before you ask, I've tried using different versions of (registered) WHDLoad, from 16.x onwards. Also on Workbench 3.1 and AmigaOS3.9 but always with the BlizzardPPC/060 board active. I've tried different versions (found online) of the games, too.

Here are the games and their details:

pga tour golf aga (After choosing any option in the menu, the selection sound effect keeps repeating and game becomes unresponsive)
super stardust aga (various graphic glitches in the game)
shadow of the Beast II (cant get past title screen)
theme park aga (after a few seconds of playing a game, the mouse will freeze and game locks up)
pinball fantasies aga (I have yet to find a version without slowdown / stability issues)
double dragon III (does not even start, although at some point it worked on 16.x)
shaq fu aga (cannot get past the title screen)
heart of china (english version never starts, black screen)
legends (no in-game music)
soccer kid aga - disc version (!) (no in-game music)
zool aga (no in-game music)

update: have just tried the disk versions of legends and to my surprise, it has no music either. had to turn off my blizzardppc to get it working (by holding down 2). likewise, pga euro tour golf has that same bug in the menu when I try the disk version (again, had to disable the blizzardppc). could it be something else in my system that is causing these artifacts? my hard drive has several partitions for example. and what about the prelude?

Did you change the maxtransfer in HDToolBox in 00x1fe00?

I dont think that is going to help anything, since the disk versions are giving me similar results. also with my idefix express I am not going to change maxtransfer settings :)

thanks though. help is much appreciated.

I had also very much issues with running whdload games. After I change the maxtransfer settings, then the issues solved.

Even I used 4xIDE controller, Blizzard SCSI and Squirrel SCSI.

understood, but perhaps I needed to mention that apart from these 11 games I have not had any other issues running whdload games. In fact I have tried almost the entire 'archive' without any problems.

There are old WHDLoad slaves that have issues running on 68060.
I've encountered many issues on 060 machines that didn't exist on 020/030.

Tinkering with WHDLoad tooltypes did help for me (VBR etc.) + http://de.aminet.net/aminet/util/wb/SystemPrefs.lha to control 060 spesific caches.

so, half a year later, little update on my list :)

pga tour golf aga (still hangs on the menu)
shadow of the Beast II (still cant get past title screen)
theme park aga (game will still freeze after a few seconds)
pinball fantasies aga (still has major issues)
double dragon III Ive got it to work now, but I forgot how :(
shaq fu aga (still cant get past title)
heart of china (the intro of the english version never starts)
legends (no in-game music)
soccer kid aga - disc version (!) (no in-game music)
zool aga apparently the in-game music is an option I should have activated, doh!

Regarding Soccer Kid and Legends, Ive tried playing the disk version with a disabled PPC board, and even then there is no music in-game. Is one of my expansions eating up a very small but critical ammount memory perhaps?

I have found that turning off the cpu caches will help with some games.
