WHDLoad icons in workbench 3.1?
« on: March 06, 2004, 11:58:30 PM »
Hi, i have problem with most icons when i install a game with WHDLoad, they are just "dots"?
I have downloaded Exoticons and glowicons from aminet, but dont know how to use them.
I guess i need a program called newicons(?)but if so, where can i find it?
(oops, have now found it on aminet but how to install?)
It would be nice to give the workbench a better look too.:-)
I would be very happy if someone could explain this to me...
I use workbench 3.1, amiga 1200, 68040 turbo card with 16Mb
Thanks in advance for any help!

I've had that problem myself in the past, sometimes I don't let it bother me. What you have to do is replace the icon with a new one. if you have a program like Diskmaster, or other that lets you look at the directory listing, you will notice for every program there is usually an assosiated file with the same base name with an extension .info

The file that has .info after it is an icon. just pick an icon you want to use, re-name it, and put it into the same location the ugly dot one is at, and that should do it.

If you have downloaded the proper NewIcons package from AmiNet, all you need to do is run the installer in the folder. Though for the installation you will need the latest version of "Installer" (on AmiNet too).

If the icons still don't display then there is nothing you can do other than installing OS3.5 as there is no way of seeing GlowIcons on any OS below that (you must have downloaded a pack of icons, not a program).

It's far easier to just install the NewIcons package which can be found on Aminet. As far as I know you also need the newest Installer, and something called GTLayout.

NewIcons v4.6
GTLayout
Installer v43.3

This will make your Workbench look so much nicer than the original Workbench. But just be aware that huge and nice looking icons takes a lot of your chip mem.
