WTB: Accelerator for A500
« on: August 29, 2017, 01:34:51 AM »
I am looking for a basic accelerator card for my A500, simply because I want an internal hard disk to run WHDload rather than running everything through my Gotek. A Kipper2k or an Early ACA500 for example. Not looking to spend a lot either.

Welcome to the forum!

Your chances of finding either a Kipper2k adapter or an Early ACA500 cheap, or even at all on eBay, are pretty slim. Both of these pieces of hardware are keepers for most people. Unless maybe someone here has one to sell directly after reading your request. :)

This new external adapter from Amedia is both reasonable in price for the features and is an "all in one" solution for an A500. I realize it's not an internal solution but neither is an ACA500. It sure does overcome most of the difficulties of expanding an A500 though!

I will say that the ACA500 is awesome for it's features and the price  though. I like the fact that is holds a copy of OS3.1 in ROM ready to  install at any time. You can still buy (the plus model) from iComp directly for $155.00.

Welcome and good luck with your hunt! :)

I was thinking if someone had an older card and then upgraded to a vampire or something to that effect.

True that! With Amiga hardware, sometimes you just have to play the waiting game. Maybe set up a search on eBay with an email alert?

I have been for several bits of Amiga equipment. I've been piecing together a 4000 recently actually (by recently, the past couple years) that way.  Well I added an ACA500 and Kipper2k auto search.

Where are you located? I may have an original ACA500 I'd part with.

It's a real pain. Especially trying to find a Zorro riser card for a decent price. May bite the bullet and go PCI if I can find one cheaper.

At least in our hobby you can take 10 years to build a machine and it's not out-of-date when it's finally done ;)
