External Amiga diskette drive on a Commodore PC-1?
« on: August 15, 2017, 08:54:07 PM »
First off, let me apologize for posting a question that might not be entirely on topic. It is slightly Amiga related, though, and certainly Commodore related, so I hope you'll bear with me.

Recently I found and acquired an old Commodore PC-1, the smaller and probably least expandable of Commodore's attempts at producing an IBM compatible PC. It has no harddrive and only a single 5¼ inch floppy drive.

It does, however, have an expansion port labelled "Disk Drive". And lo and behold; it is even a female DB23 connector, just like on the Amiga. So my question is, can I borrow my external diskette drive from my Amiga and have the PC-1 read 3½ inch floppies this way? The connectors fit physically, but will the PC-1 be able to use the drive, and more importantly, will I break anything by connecting it up and turning the power on?

If it works, I realise I will not be able to read/write High Density formatted diskettes, as the Amiga drive doesn't support those.

You can also use an Amiga mouse with it.
