I suppose I could try it, but I wanted the card to be externally accessible so I can transfer data easily.

Has anyone actually had a Buddha working%&$#?@!%&$#?@!%&$#?@!8203; with a CF card?

oldsmobile mike has a buddha working without trueide, it is possible. but i believe the buddha is extremely picky about what cf card you use

Maybe I can try the internal IDE.

Internal IDE doesn't work either.

It's there something like the TrueIDE that has a card slot bracket?

not quite sure what you are asking for...?

There are many IDE-CF adapters, most of them are just pass through since CF is based upon IDE standards. The big difference with trueide is that it has an onboard chip to "bypass" the removable signal from CF cards. Trueide reports itself as a hard disk drive and not removable. (but i guess you already know this)

Like said earlier in the tread, some CF cards do not report itself as removable in a ide bus. But which cards are a pain to find out of...
I did never find any list when i looked into it. and i never found any CF card with any switch to select removable or not. i did find some (really) older cf cards with write protection switch though.
But i have read articles about some vendors making cards that can change the fixed/removable bit with a utility. Sandisk is/was one of them.

I have an old kingston 512MB cf card i used in my PIII as a bootable hdd and ran freenas from it. it did never compain about removable flag. but the buddha did not recognize it at all. with trueide, it worked like a charm.

some articles on the topic that may be helpfull:
http://www.os2museum.com/wp/removable-cf-card-or-not/
https://www.pcreview.co.uk/threads/is-my-cf-a-non-removable.525206/ i have not tried the utility from sandisk. but it could help....
https://www.techwalla.com/articles/how-to-set-a-cf-card-to-fixed-mode  I wonder if this would work after converting the card for amiga use after setting it to fixed mode.

What I mean is that I have a CF IDE adapter that fits in the slot at the back where Zorro cards have their ports. So with the case closed I can insert the CF card through the back.

I found another couple of adapters to try, neither worked. I think the Buddha is just hopeless with CF cards. Might try a SCSI external MO instead, because SCSI compatibility is better.

aha.. i see :)
Have not tried those. i don't believe moving the installed cf card(s) to other machines is a viable solution. i have lost complete installs before.
another method of transfer is (for me, at least) preferred, i use zip disk for this purpose.

Yea. but i had no other option for my A500. the trueide became my savior. and it works like a charm. I do have a SCSI controller planned for the A2K project.

Well this looks promising from Doobrey!

New version: Patches for Individual Computer's IDE drivers  v1.1

http://aminet.net/package/driver/media/IDEFix_patches

And an IDE prefs program

http://aminet.net/package/driver/media/IDEPrefs

This will be fun to try out as I no longer have to rely on the Buddha/TrueIDE setup to host my AOS since installing my SCSI card reader into my A2K.
