DKB Wildfire card with 040?
« on: April 14, 2017, 05:49:11 PM »
I bought a 2000 on ebay that is coming with a DKB Wildfire card. Sadly this is being sold by a computer club user who lost it's owner and I assume he left his equipment to the club to raise money. Sounds like a great guy and will be missed.

So the seller listed the specs and showed it working but noted that in SYSINFO the proc is listed as an 040 not an 060. I cannot find any documentation pointing to this card working with an 040 installed, could it be a sysinfo mistake?

I can't wait till it arrives. Here is the seller's description:

*******************************
This is a Rev 6.x version motherboard with Kickstart 3.1. It is in a Video Toaster case with matching Video Toaster keyboard. The actual toaster cards are not present. Maybe they are toast! The beastly part of its description comes from what is in inside this machine. Firsty it has the DKP mega chip fitted giving it 2MB of Chip Ram. Perfect for those odd WHDLoad games that need it (I’m looking at you Sensible Soccer). Secondly it comes with a DKB Wildfire card which combines SCSI controller, Accelerator, memory expansion and fast ethernet! That’s some card! It comes with a 2GB SCSI HDD which seems to work happily but with all these old drives, you may want to look into an SD card option. The card has two memory slots filled and workbench shows 32MB of fast ram which is huge for an A2000. It has a replacement bigfoot PSU fitted and there was a battery on the board when I opened it up. Looked like anewer one but I removed it anyway. Best to fit a coin battery instead. The Amiga hardware database states the DKP has an 060 Chip but when I ran SysInfo it showed 040. Still thats quite a boost!

Older versions of SysInfo don't correctly work with an 060. Even the latest version (4.0) has "issues". But at least it'll properly display 060, lol. ;)

Edit: might still display 040 if the user has wrong libraries installed.

Nice card, btw!

Thanks, that's what I was thinking. Can't wait to check this out as it has Ethernet as well.

All of the old processor identifier utilities report 060s as 040s because 060 boards hadn't yet been invented when they were written :)

Umm.  Sell it and put the money towards an A3000 '060 card?  '060's for A2000's are comparatively more rare (especially the Wildfire), so it's even possible that you'll get more from the sale of this card than an '060 card for an A3000 will cost you.  :D

I was wondering what happened to that!  Was pondering picking it up myself!  Oh well, hope it has a good, new home.

I am the seller of that Amiga (It shipped today by the way). I was pretty sure it was an 060 but since the Sysinfo didn't say that I didn't want to make any false assumptions.

The deceased is not the club owner by the way. He was a hardware guy that kindly used on of his rental properties as storage for the club inventory. His passing means that the club has to downsize the inventory by a large margin. So I offered to help out with getting rid of the non-AGA stuff.

Hope you enjoy your new Amiga.
