Vampire 500 V2+ on A2000 ? (with Megachip and RomSwitcher)
« on: April 06, 2017, 09:56:28 PM »
Hi!

Hope to get my card soon! (sent payment)

i am hoping to this this on my 2000 if I can get it to work and or on my 500 as a backup if i can't.

Where can I find the adapter required to make it fit in the 2000 ? Is there more than one version ?

My concern is

1: Can I find someplace to obtain this card ?
2: Will it work with my DKB Megachip II installed?
3: Will it work with my DKB RomSwitcher installed?

the concerns around the add -on is not compatibility but more if it will fit :hammer:

Thanks in advance!

Several months too late, but can confirm the Vampire fits just fine inside an A2000 with the MegaChip. I'm not using an adaptor for the fast slot either. My board sits in the 68k socket.

Not too late for me, thank you for this info! I am trying to decide if mine is going in an A2000 or A500+

Oh and unless you have a Kickstart switcher with a ribbon cable that routes the board and chips farther on down, no way that would fit. Vampire covers and sits right above the Kickstart chip, which incidentally, you no longer need. Has its own version of 3.1 on it, so removed mine altogether. Come to think of it, might explain why ClassicWorkbench throws a question mark where the version of Kickstart normally sits in the upper left of the toolbar. I thought when I had it in, ClassicWB showed the 3.1 designation.

Or could be ClassicWB not knowing how to deal with the Vampire. Shows it as a 68040 too, which both of these things kind of bug me.  lol

As an aside, was nice pulling my Zorro RAM card and A2091 w/ hard drive out of the machine. The A2000 is much lighter, not to mention the reduced current draw. But think the 2091 sans HD is going back in, just so I can use the CD drive again. Shame the microSD slot doesn't work as removable mass storage - yet?

I also have my Vampire 500 V2+ in an A2000
the Vampire fits nicely with out a riser as long a you remove the rom chip, which you need to do anyway.

You can't use a kickstart switcher with the Vampire AFAIK.  My A2000 would not boot with the original kickstart left in the socket.

I used the adapter instead of the CPU socket so as to not damage the socket with the vampire's machine pins.   I got the adapter from Kipper2K, but, good luck getting in touch with him.  He's totally burned out and likely ignoring emails.

Is this still the case? I'm receiving my Vampire 500 v2+ with an adapter shortly and I'm wondering if I still have to remove KickROM 3.1 and the original 68000 CPU from the sockets (using an Amiga 2000 Rev 6.2). It would be nice if everything could be left in place, so that I just need to remove the Adapter+Vampire to get the A2000 to it's original state.

I have it in my rev 6.3 with the CPU adapter from Acill and have the 3.1 Kickstart, 68k CPU, 4xEIDE, DKB Megachip, Mnt 2000 video card, Deneb USB, and Ariadne Ethernet with no issues with update 2.5 on the Vampire.

My Vampire 500 v2+ and the CPU slot adapter arrived a few days ago. The Vampire works in my Amiga 500 with Rev. 8A Board (68000 & KickROM 2.0 removed). On my A2000, I removed all additional cards and connected the Vampire with CPU Adapter (68000 and KickROM 3.1 still installed). Unfortunatly I got no startup sound and the machine didn't boot. After removing the original CPU, the screen turns black at startup and after 25-30 seconds, the KickROM screen appears. After that, the machine is really quick but I'm wondering why the startup takes so long (it's much faster on the A500).

The specs of my A2000:
- Mainboard revision 6.2
- 68000 & KickROM 3.1 removed
- CPU slot Adapter from Acill
- No other Zorro II cards inside at this time
- 1MB ChipRAM

Could this be a problem with different chip versions? A2000 runs currently with Agnus 8372A, A500 has a 8375. I will get a DCE MegaChip tomorrow, perhaps this will solve the problem?

Vampire has been updated to Gold 2.5.

Edit:
Problem solved - if you have no CF-Card/IDE-Disk attached on the Vampire IDE-Port, there's a boot-Delay on A2000. I attached my CF-Adapter with a new SanDisk CF-Card today and the A2000 booted immediately to the KickROM screen.
