Need a telnet program

What's the best telnet and/or terminal program for Amiga OS?

for telnet AmTelnet is i guess the best, at least in the looks... they all seem to have the same functionality... as for term, again AmTerm i guess...

The standard Geek Gadgets bsd-derived telnet aka "AmiTCP telnet " client works very well for most tasks (with ANSI colouring  and everything). But with some deamons it has a problem with non-working cursor keys. With such sites I use MiamiTelnet.

AmTelnet is great if you don't need a chatline or a good ARexx port.  You can't stream all of the I/O through ARexx properly.  There is no ARexx logic for scripting.  On the chatline you have to hit tab every time you hit return making it annoying to use.  If you need a simple SSH telnet program AmTelnet is great but MiamiTelnet is just as good.  If you need a full ARexx port and will use the chatline at any time, I would recommend going with Term (not AmTerm, but Term) over AmTelnet.  Using Term and TelSer.device you can use the terminal package as a full blown telnet program.  Very slick when it's all set up.  The only thing AmTelnet has going for it is MUI, and that's not saying much in my book.

I've heard bad things about DCTelnet, such as being a trojan and that it sends logs of sessions to the coders without notice. As this is unconfirmed, I'd like to know the truth about this. In the meantime I avoid using it.

I like DCTelnet for BBS usage and AmTelnet for SSH use. And amitcp/ip's telnet for testing outputs of different protocols in different ports

Varthall: If you're worried about DCTelnet, why wouldn't you download the source code from Aminet and check it yourself. And if you're still paranoid, compile it yourself

I used DCTelnet a LONG time ago when I was using a floppy only Amiga 500. I've never had any sort of virus trouble, so I can only assume it's safe to use. I've still got the C source code for it, although I've never taken the time to actually look through it. I think DCTelnet was about the only thing they released that wasn't cracked or virus-infested and was actually a decent program, although I'd still go with Term and telser.device just to be on the safe side.

Don't use the ssh in AmTelnet, it's v1 only! Man-in-the-middle attacks can work quite well hijacking a sshv1 connection. It's still much better than telnet!

There is sshv2 support on Amiga (unstable but usable): http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/amiga/openssh-3.7.1p2.R2.lha?download. Public-key cryptography rules!

DCtelnet is the best for Telnet sessions and Amtelnet for SSH1 (for ss2 i think you need to look for some linux port of _something_) as for DCtelnet having a Trojan it has not! its probably the best thing DC ever did =) and the Coder behind it is the same guy that has made Xchat for Linux.

I take the risk of using ssh1 with AmTelnet Sure ssh2 would be better, but I like the GUI and addressbooks etc in AmTelnet. I've been thinking for long time to write email to authors of AmTelnet, if they're going to add ssh2 support for it, but in my lazyness I haven't got it done yet I don't remember have I tried that openssh port, but other shell ssh-clients haven't worked with arrow keys and that's important feature to have..
