VPN and amiga ?
« on: March 03, 2004, 11:46:58 PM »
Does anyone knows if amiga can connect to an VPN network?
If yes with which program and a quick how to?
I have an VPN over a wireless network here in thessaloniki and  I want to connect my home computers via the dsl I have in my work without giving anyone connected to this public wireless network access to my DSL.. any help?
My PC (yike!) and my powerbook already have access to DSL via the VPN server and connection I set up a week now.. in fact I'm writing this from peecee machine making use of a DSL line 5km away via a 5 hops connection.
Any help or tip will be appreciated.

I think Miami Deluxe has VPN built in. I found the post below from Holger. I don't know were you can get a key file.
Good luck!!!

Miami Deluxe contains a client-side driver for PPTP.

Which protocol does your VPN solution use?

I had my Amiga, using MiamiDx 1.0c, with a working (except that I had to use a http proxy, had a routing problem) setup to a VPN/PPTP server at the university. Basically you must add a pseudo interface - ppp0 - and a VPN dialer. I must say that it was much, much slower than using a standard TCP/IP link (because of the messy MPPE encryption of IP payload).

Search through the http://www.mail-archive.com/miamidx-talk-ml@h1.nordicglobal.com  if you want to learn how to set it up or you can ask in this thread.

Of course you need a valid MiamiDx key for this, since the only VPN option for AmigaOS is provided by MiamiDx.

PPTP is by the way highly insecure. MS-CHAP is very weak.

Edit:

Miamidx.guide gives a PPTP/LT2P howto.
