archive.org TOSEC downloads
« on: January 26, 2017, 07:19:35 AM »
Archive.org apparently has a DMCA exception. Does that mean downloading ROMS/ADFs/ISOs from their TOSEC section legal?

They've pretty much got a lot covered, including CD32 ISOs:
http://ia801707.us.archive.org/zipview.php?zip=/32/items/Amiga_CD32_TOSEC_2009_04_18/Amiga_CD32_TOSEC_2009-04-18.zip

This should spell a boon for legit retro gamers.

The following items in this archive have been removed at the request of Cloanto, Inc., who are the
current owners of these Amiga ROMs and Images:

Kickstarts, Workbenches, Personal Paint & a few other apps.

Anywayz downloading ATM 31.5GB... always looking for a way to fill another drive... only 5.26TB space left out of 20TB

And the download has failed 3 times for me so far...

My bad, I was looking at the size of the Amiga download... the CD32 one is 46.6GB getting them both by torrent now... hopefully it will be a lot more reliable than the direct downloads...

seems to be a lot of duplicated data: games ADF, IPF, WHDLoad.
if possible there should be a utility that can convert IPF + patches into other two 'formats'.
Better sorry than worry.

The DMCA exception they have only covers circumventing copy protection on old software that they legally own. It doesn't give them permission to distribute the files.

When they receive DMCA take downs, they hide the files from the public.

Downloading from archive.org has the same legal status as downloading from anywhere else.
