New pricing announced for MorphOS
« on: October 28, 2016, 11:52:00 PM »
Effective as of 10/26/2016 the following are the prices for MorphOS:

The prices are 79 EUR for
- PowerBook G4 system
- iBook G4
- Power Mac G5
- eMac
- Mac mini G4
- Pegasos I
- Pegasos II
- PowerMac G4

The prices are 49 EUR for
- EfikaPPC
- Sam460 system

To clarify for individuals concerned about the loss of a keyfile investment due to defective hardware:
The hardware bound keyfile will be transferred free of charge to a replacement machine if ever required - not bound or time limited to the original registration date. The keyfile will also stay valid for every future MorphOS3 update that is ever going to be released.

The information has not been updated on the website yet but will be very soon.

Please visit http://www.morphos-team.net for additional information.

I wonder if this means a new release is imminent...

Nice gesture of them, and I hope it gets some more users onboard.

? Why would a price drop signal the release of 3.10?
If you paid for it ahead of time, you'd still get the update free.
That's how the OS is distributed, no charge for later revisions to key holders.

Nice timing. I've been upgrading my G5 with spare SSDs and RAM. I think I'll finally get the G5 on MOS.

@Iggy

I believe that there was a price drop on the Mac Mini and Efika license when Powermac and/or ibook support came with a 3.x release. Correct?

Not saying that it does, merely that it could. i.e., they could promote 2 things at once - "New version 3.10! Now cheaper [for new users]!"

I know, I have several MorphOS licenses :)

I am ready for 3.10.  I would like to see working wireless on my MacMini and MacBook.  I also have five more MacMinis I would like to get up and running with MorphOS and hopefully make ready-to-run kits.

(Although, I'm not certain I like the idea of introducing 2.4GHz wireless into my environment when 5GHz works sooooooo damn well.)

How easy is it to set up a Sam460 to dualboot OS4 and MorphOS?

Not very easy at all.
But some are multi-booting MorphOS systems.
I have a friend with a Pegasos 2 that has it set up to boot MorphOS, OS4, Linux, and OSX.

BTW - Can anyone explain to me what the weird comment from the Texan mean?

And yes, the Efika's price went down awhile ago.

MorphOS 3.10 will be released when its ready and it runs on all supported systems.

Wireless on my MacMini (1.5Mhz edition) have been working for quite a while now, cant remember from which version it started to work. But perhaps they did use different wifi chipsets in some models?

Airport extreme is supported since quite while.
And it works well - at least on my Mac mini silent upgrade and okay on my Powerbook 5.6 (signal quaity is a bit weak there,  hence I stay with the Atheros pcmcia card which has a stronger signal quality - dunno if it's antennas or drivers which are better though)

While I am happy with 3.9 I am 3.10 ready as well ;-)

Yes, quite a bit more for the G5 actually.
And I'm not an advocate of reducing the license fee for other models to the level of the key for an Efika.
Don't want to spend an additional 20 euros?
Well you could always buy OS4 (and until the unimpressive Tabor board arrives additional expensive hardware that far negates the pricing advantage).

Frankly, I didn't have a problem with the older pricing schemes.

Nobody caught the fact that there is no X5000 pricing. I'm guessing that the price drop is indeed a precursor to announcing Morphs 3.10. And since most of the work over the past year has been about the X5000 it wouldn't make sense to charge people with G4/G5 Macs the full price.
