Dead Diskdrive port?
« on: February 29, 2004, 06:51:32 PM »
My Amiga

A1200 Power Tower
MotherBoard A1200 Rev 1D4
3.1 Kickstart
Apollo Turbo 1230 MK2 ('30 16MB)
1.2GB Hard Drive
LiteOn 52x CDROM

I have a Cumana external floppy drive that works fine in my A500+

However when I plug it in to my A1200 Power Tower, it either does not show uo at all, or shows the following errors on my workbench DF1:??? DF2:??? DF3:??? etc

Any ideas, could this be a dead diskdrive port? my internal (DF0:) works fine.

Thanks in advance :)

Hi :-)

Seems like the small fuse on the power line to the external floppy port is blown :-(

If you have a voltmeter look at the external floppy port pin 12 for +5 volts and pin 23 for +12 volts.

If the two are ok ????

Nothing, in either case, although DF0: works fine in both cases :)

Voxel> I have no way, of checking them at the moment, but I must say, it seems the most likely to me, I don't know much about the eletronics side of the amiga, so thanks for enlightening me :)

I have only had this A1200 for a few weeks, and it's the only fault that has showen. I don't really need the external floppy too much, I guess I will be able to live without until I can get this fixed.

Thanks :)

voxel> Just had another look, I think you must be right as there appears to be no power to the external drive, as the light does not come on and the drive does not "click" at all.
