Stupid EBayers
« on: February 29, 2004, 01:16:25 PM »
I'm looking for a new modem for my Amiga, so EBay is an obvious place to look.

I've found a seller with a container load of modems to sell and he's offering them at a starting price of £20, about half retail. Each one is listed individually, so if EBayers used a little common sense, they could each get one at that price.

However, the thrill of bidding seems to cause some people lose all their common sense and they outbid and outbid each other til the price approaches the retail price (sometimes exceeding it). How can these people be so stupid?

The seller has clearly indicated a willingness to accept £20 on hundreds of the bloody things. Why don't those stupid people simply find the next unbidded item and make their mark on it. There's plenty to go around. I've posted this in case anyone here is in this market. If so, let's use a bit of common eh?

Cheers,

JaX

I've had this happen on items I've sold.
Someone has to state the obvious and that someone is me!

Each modem is offered at a starting price of £20 with no reserve. He has a large number to sell.

I recently sold an Amiga 2000/A2620. It rose up quickly over $100.00 and ended at $132.50.

Now I have an even nicer one up with an 030 card and it's at $13.50 and holding (2790207169) with only a day to go. I may end up giving this one away.

You never can tell what's going to happen.

id say keep looking JaX, even at £20 that is expensive, you can buy them new for a little bit more. Id expect to pay around £10 for a 56k modem.

Stick a wanted on amibench, im sure youll get a response.

I'm looking out for an ADSL Modem/Router unit. I'm hoping to go Broadband. Cheapest retails seem to be around £40 plus delivery.

Cheers,

OK, just got me the ADSL Modem/Router for £20 plus postage. Luckily, there was a second one on offer with the same closing time so I bid on one and 'he' bid on the other. This was at zero minus 5 minutes and we both scored!

I guess someone read my post or at least realised how these things should be done.

Cheers,

JaX

How's this for a wild eBay story. A year ago I sold a DCE internal scan magic sd/ff module for A1200/A4000 for...280USD. There were about 3 guys within the bidding war in that auction and the winner was from Australia, and payed fair and sqaure, no problems. :-)

Was that this one:

?

If so then dang. I'd love to have it, but I'd guess postage would be killer to me.

Thats how people do things on ebay ive seen an 030 acelerator for an a1200 hit 130 pound most times they only go for 30 to 50 and an ide interface for an a1200 went for 66 pound and as far as i know these can still be bought for 15 to 20 pound new.it always pays to look at sellers other items if he has more of 1 thing.A

I once had an amigaone xe but sold it .

It's called "Greed."

In other words, there are some people in this world where money means nothing to them except to get the product.  And, depending "how bad they want it for themselves" is translated into lots of money being offered.

Don't mind me, I'm just being a -little- sarcastic. :-D
