Membrane issue?
« on: August 08, 2016, 03:47:05 PM »
Just booted up my Amiga 1200 for the first time in a while, was really exited as it had been away for cap-fix but to my disappointment the keyboard is not working properly.
One or two keys are not responding at all, and from what I understand its probably the membrane that is the issue but for several keys the mapping is f***ed up. a is q and q is a, z is w and w is z, m is ; and so on.. Can this be due to the membrane also, or might it be something else that is causing this?

I have attached a photo (as close as I can get) of the membrane, but cant really judge if it is worn down or what. I read a forum post where some had cut the edge of, would this be recommended? I fail to see how this would be beneficial, is the connection not made on the flat end of the surface? If I cut it, the bottom would be exposed- but this is not where the connection is made is it?

Maybe you can cut 1 mm => http://leblogdecosmos.blogspot.fr/2016/02/de-bons-ciseaux.html

As I said, we need new membranes for the A1200 !

Out of curiosity, where did you send your A1200? Did you send the whole machine or just the motherboard?

I see a lot of scratches on the left hand side...not good. I doubt this was ever fixable. Keyboard ribbon has to be removed very carefully and square, anything else will likely cause damage, as will removing ribbon before unlocking the connector.

To Cosmos

Last time I had the Amiga up and running was about 2 or 3 years ago for a short wile, no more than a week. Back then all the keys were working properly. After that it was put back in the box.

He has installed french keyboard setting.. I had no idea a was q, q was a, z was w and w was z on french keyboard.. Isnt querty a standard?

So in other words, there was really nothing wrong.

Is it possible to use keyboard with US or UK keyset and just yank the keys off and replace them with my SE ones, or does that not work?

Everybody looooves to blame Cosmos for everything, lol.

Just copy the right keymap off your Workbench disk, or out of your storage folder, or where ever you have them stored.  :)

If someone charges me for a job, then I expect it to be done properly. That has nothing to do with blame you do get that right?

Ah, wrong keymap: that's not QWERTY, that's AZERTY and is indeed the French standard for keyboards as it has been for ages. Nothing wrong with the keyboard or the membrane. Well, now there is, ofcourse, as you've killed off your keyboard membrane. :)
Life sucks. Then you die. Then they throw mud in your face. Then you get eaten by worms. Be happy it happens in that order... My Amiga 1200

Yup..
Had no idea there even was such a thing as AZERTY.

Anyway, Amiga is going back in the closet as soon as the kickstart is replaced. Have no idea how to fix it the keyboard or what to do about it, and frankly spent more on fixing and upgrades than what I could afford. Such a letdown, really freaking sad that this happened...
