Weird BlizKick problem (A4000)
« on: July 10, 2016, 07:54:05 PM »
Hello Amiga.Org,
I need help with a strange issue that is a combination of software and apparently hardware. I decided to post in software section as it manifests itself when using Piru's BlizKick.

I have a desktop A4000 with 040/25 sitting in a A3640 CPU card. Other hardware includes Toccata soundcard, X-Surf network card and an apparent cause of all MapROM problem - the mighty CyberVision 64/3D (DCE).

In short, when CV64 is physically installed in either of the slots it causes BlizKick to reboot endlessly trying to kick that ROM 3.1 file in. The same happens when trying to remap the onboard 3.0 ROM (i can tell by not losing 0.5MB of FastRAM after booting). And yet, when I just remove CV64 from the daughterboard everyting works as expected - BlizKick works just fine every time (from either one of three ROM files, or the onboard ROM chips).

BTW, it doesn't matter if I put BlizKick line before or after SetPatch, the result is the same. I even tried launching BlizKick from CLI after LoadWB - still not getting ROM mapped at all.

The A3640 jumper for MAPROM is of course in ENABLE state.

And this is the commandline I am using:
C:BlizKick DEVS:KICK31.ROM CPUCARD SPEEDROM

Tried also without SPEEDROM and it just refuses to work when I have CyberVision card installed.

HELP PLEASE! :(

Please clarify...
Do you have real 3.0 roms or real 3.1 roms?

Are the soft kick roms verified? (do they work in a another machine?)

Well, seems like my problem has resolved itself by magic.

SACC-guy, thank you for your interest in helping me...

I am now absolutely confused and amazed, as it turns out now it all started working as expected. And all I did is basically rearrange the cards in the Zorro slots. I could've sworn I could reproduce this erratic behaviour every time... Is it possible that a Zorro card not sitting well in the slot caused the BlizKick to behave this strange? :O

It's a mystery.
