FastATA 1200 and Indivision - how to?
« on: June 09, 2016, 08:22:42 PM »
I have a A1200 tower with BPPC, Mediator and Indivision. I would like to add a FastATA 1200 MK-V (at present I am using the built-in IDE port) however as far as I have researchet it is not possible to fint everything without some modifications.

Has anybody done it and how?

Thank you in advance.

I was going to ask similar question. What about FastATA, Indivision AND Mediator?

BTW. I really like Amiga developers... We have like ONE kind of 1200 mobo and.. stuff don't fit. Why Jens didn't consider different design, knowing that people have FastAta?

I have a Bliz1260 and Indivision and FastATA-IV. I just used ROM socket risers to raise the fastATA over the Indy. Here is some info for you :)

Did anybody tried this with Mediator on top of it? I'm not sure how much space will be left... between FastAta and Mediator.

If you're going to be installing a Mediator anyway... why not try the A3000/A4000 version of the FastATA?  I don't have any experience with that hardware but off-hand I assume it would work?

?

This:

Instead of trying to cram stuff onto your A1200 motherboard, use one designed for a Zorro slot to begin with.  I don't know if it will work in a Mediator though, is what I'm saying.  Maybe someone with a little more experience in these cards will chime in.  :)

Because the Mediator 1200 doesn't have any PCI slots.

OMFG.  The card I linked to is a Zorro card, not a PCI card.  The suggestion I posed, and question at the same time, is "Would a Zorro slot FastATA board designed for A3000/A4000 work in a Mediator?"  IF SO, it would eliminate OP's problem of having to cram an A1200-version FastATA card in-between their Mediator, Indivision, and other expansions.  But I don't know if the Zorro-based version of the FastATA will work in the Mediator 1200.  Not because It's PCI, but because it was designed for A3000/A4000.

For chrissake, I give up.  Too many facepalms in this forum, today. :(

Edit:  Nevermind.  The Mediator 1200 doesn't have any Zorro slots?  Just googled a picture.  What a piece of crap.  I just assumed that every Amiga expansion busboard included at least a few Zorro slots. Meh.  :(

I just came across this photo, where someone used ribbon cables to relocate the Fast ATA 1200.

Usually there's ton of dead space towards the front of an A1200 tower with a Mediator.  To me, the obvious solution would be to design a PCB that relocates the Fast ATA and ROMs from under the Mediator and into that dead space.  Turning the ROM sockets though 180° would minimize the size  requirements of such a board.

I just ordered ROM sockets so I will see how much space I will get under Mediator with them installed.

If I can't fit them I will do as you showed on this picture I got 4 ROM sockets so I will not destroy my FastATA.

Thank you for idea!

Think you for all the advice :-)

I am going with the "kickstart-riser with flat cable"-solution since it is the only way that will fit under the Mediator.

Does anybody know where I can buy such a thing finished? I do not really have the time/soldering capabilities.
