No matter what you put into your A1200 (as far as 030), it is going to be painfully slow e.g. loading 640x480 picture in 256 colors take soooooooooome time.

I will answer this question best I can:

CHEAP and working.

:)

Why? No matter what you put into your A1200 (as far as 030), it is going to be painfully slow e.g. loading 640x480 picture in 256 colors take soooooooooome time. OK. To be more serious... there are differences between 030, but I would not care about it.

JPEG's aren't going to load fast on an 030, true. You ought to try loading JPEG's on a 68000 if you want to know what slow really is. :laugh1:

Quick question. What would be best format (fastest) to use in slow Amiga? .iff? I need something to put on background that doesn't load 5 min ;).

Of course not, but why use a relatively heavy format like that? I use BMP for true color images on my Amiga. Much faster.

Yes, .iff. If you load it into some kind of image editing program and scale/crop it to the exact resolution of your Workbench, dither it to the exact number of colors you use, etc., will help.

Also install the Peter K. icon.library for faster icon drawing times. :)

I don't know, you'll have to ask Kreciu - he's the one who's loading pictures that are sooooo sloooooooow. I made an educated guess that he's loading  JPEG's. :)

No, really. I got .iff pictures converted to 800x600 in 256 color. I'm using it with Radeon running WB in 800x600 16bit. It is SLOW (maybe it is fast for 030 ;) ). I will try .bmp.

Slow hard drive speed? What's your storage setup? What are you using to load these pictures? Datatypes? I use VT or Visage, there are others. How slow are we talking here? How large is the file?

I have CF card, so this should not be an issue.

Depends what the CF card is connected to. Is it as per your signature, FastATA?

The problem is probably that you're using iff files, which are planar, with your graphics card, which is chunky. The software you're using is probably really slow at doing planar to chunky conversion (try different viewer programs to see the difference, potentially). Indeed try something that doesn't need to be converted like bmp.

I'm actually using it only for my WB background. I'm not sure how to improve loading time here? Amiga boots really fast but I need to wait "few minutes" for background to load :(. This is my first 030 and with my 040 I did not have to wait that much at all, so I blame my 030.

Odd. Bmp files should be really easy to display on a gfx card, so it shouldn't be slow at all, not even on a 68030. 68030s can even render to HAM8 in good quality pretty fast with the right software.

There's probably a solution for this.

What happened to your 040 card? Are you certain your 030 is working correctly? Have you performed speed tests with it such as SysSpeed/AIBB/SysInfo? Do you have 040 specific datatypes on there or something?
